This is my first time posting on VisaJourney but I have been following the forums since the beginning of my immigration journey with my fiance (March 2012) and it has been extremely helpful. My fiance received Packet 3 from the US embassy in Cairo on September 26 and we are preparing to send back the packet as soon as we receive his medical results (which he will receive 10 days after the exam).

My question is for other members who have applied for the K1 visa through the US embassy in Cairo. How long does it usually take after sending back Packet 3 to receive Packet 4? In other words, how long does the embassy take to schedule an interview after receiving Packet 3 and what is the wait time after sending Packet 3 until the interview date itself? Also, do you have any advice regarding the interview itself?

I am hoping that my fiance will be here with me before the end of the year (no concrete plans for a wedding date, I just miss him and am hopeful). Is there a good chance of him coming here before the end of December? I am assuming we have no red flags in our petition since we are close in age (3 years difference and he is older), same religion, I am originally Egyptian (parents were Egyptian nationals and I was born in the US), I can financially support him with a good income as soon as he arrives, I have never submitted a petition for anyone else and he has never applied to come to the US, no criminal history for either of us, and lastly we got engaged on my first time to meet him in Egypt but I visited him again in the middle of this journey (end of May 2012).

Thank you for all your help in advance. :)

Short answer is probably not, he won't be in the US by the end of the year.Look at my timeline, it's pretty much the same as yours, except for our AP took only 2 weeks. That's almost unheard of (lately). Virtually every male coming out of a MENA/ African country will go through AP- administrative processing. Yes, it may take 3 weeks and in extreme cases years.

The advantage K-1 has is that the embassy issues the interview directly- not NVC. So, he may be scheduled for december. It's October already and he hasn't send out his packet. They will be scheduling interviews in October for November and December. So, I believe the earliest he'll receive a date is December- unless a lot of spots open due to cancellations, for example.

Prepare him for a good interview.

Good luck!

Don't ever do anything you're not willing to explain the paramedics.

I am in a very very similar position as you. I am an American citizen, originally from Egypt both parents full Egyptians. Im 28 yrs old. My fiancé' is 25 yrs old. she's in Egypt. known her my whole entire life. visited Egypt 3 times last year alone to see her. started the I-129F in January 2012. got approved in July 2012. with a RFE. but never the less the process in America was relatively smooth. However Egypt is a different story. First packet 3 never arrived finally I emailed them three weeks later. They basically said “ our bad, we mailed it to the wrong address and never called you or emailed you to tell you that”. No problem. Got packet 3 via email, and mailed it in. that was august 22nd. Ever since then we’ve been waiting an interview to no avail. We email them constantly, they said they were full in augest, then same email for September, and October. And its about half way through October, and we don’t have an interview scheduled yet for November. So probably December…. Hopefully… I finally got fed up and talked to an immigration lawyer here in the states, and told her to do what ever is in her power to speed the process up. We emailed turkey to see if we can have the interview there. Ofcourse there would be a processing time involved, but if they can give me a definite time I will take it. Even if its in December, or January. We have talked to a congressman also to no avail.. the think to know is you are dealing with the most incompetent staff in the world. I don’t need to tell you this im sure you already have a feeling of the disorganization going on there. Or you can simply look at Egypt’s time line. Slowest in the world.. IRAN that doesn’t have an american embassy is quicker than egypt. Lol…. Sorry for the bad news.
