Hello! How's everyone doing?

Here's an update of the things that happened after our DCF visa journey:

Sept. 1, 2012 - We arrived in the States.

Sept. 6, 2012 - Got my SSN and State ID.

Sept. 11, 2012 - Got my SSN card.

Sept. 15, 2012 - Got my Green Card.

Those were the good part. The bad news: I failed the written part of the driving test, and I still don't have a job. :(

congratulations!

regarding the driving test, my hubby easily passed the written exam but had to the take the actual driving test 3 times. considering he had years of driving experience here in Manila. :bonk:

anyway, he easily found a job thru his parents' network of friends in L.A. It was difficult for him to find a job relevant to his previous office work here in Manila because the employers preferred that he has US working experience. so his only option was to accept a job far from what he was used to (considering he's a college graduate). he decided to stay on the job so he can gain "US working experience". what's important is he's earning and has a decent job.

thank God after a few months, he got accepted for an office job at the Los Angeles County. salary is higher too.

just keep on trying to look for a job. don't hesitate to ask for help from your spouse's friends and your relatives. their recommendation can help you land a job too.

goodluck. :innocent:

What's the difference between got my SSN and got my SSN card?

Good luck on job hunting!

It all depends on what kind of job you are looking for. With the economy and employment status in California - goodluck! You are not alone, there are hundred of people who are looking for a job or just got laid off. If you want something just to get your foot in the door, try working as a retail or customer service at a Department Store, Grocery Store so they see that you have work experience. There are also employment agency who can help you that fits your qualifications. These are called "temporary jobs", meaning contact from 3-6months, unless the company likes you, then they will keep you.

SSN# and SSN card is same thing. I wouldn't carry the SSN card around. Make a copy and leave the original at home. You will only need to memorize your SSN for job applications.

Well I can go on....but in short, don't sweat it. Take it one at a time. If getting a driver's license/permit is necessary than do that first. You can always apply for a California Id, you also get this at the DMV. Goodluck!

Good luck on job hunting!

Some people obtain their social security number before they actually get the card, by going into their local SSA office. I'm not sure if that was the case for the OP, but that's one explanation.

Long story short, we have a complicated case. We've been at this for nearly 5 years. You can read our story here. I highly recommend our attorney Laurel Scott, as well as attorneys Laura Fernandez and Lizz Cannon .

Filed I-130 via CSC in Feb 2008. Petition approved June 2008. Consular interview in Mexico, Oct 2008, visa denied, INA 212a6cii. We allege improper application of the law in this case.

2012, started over in Seoul: I-130 filed DCF on 7/2, I-130 approved 8/8, Medical at Yonsei Severance 11/20, IR1 appointment in November 2012.

CRBA filed 1-3-13 at Seoul for our daughter
