I think the answers are there, they are simply off the table by the powers behind the throne. Based on charts over the last century our taxation has gone in completely the wrong direction for the past 40 years. Income taxes have come down too far, corporate taxes are too high and you've had every administration since Nixon ignoring the trade imbalance.

On one hand you don't want to initiate a trade war with China, on the other we have been presented with many opportunities to hammer out more balance trade with the notion of safety. The US could have and should have heavily regulated trade with China the minute tainted goods were discovered - other countries have done it. For instance, when a single case of BSE was discovered what happened to the trade of US Beef? This might sound odd to some, but one of the best ways to soften globalization is with red tape.

While that essentially what needs to happen, alot of companies are driven by short term share price and don't see the long term value in that decision. This is especially true for companies that are primarily B2B and not B2C, since it will take longer to realize the benefit.

I would say additionally that many large companies are pretty much transnational and will just go to other countries for growth instead of trying to realize it at home.
