Hey guys quick question- When i filled in my I-130 I used my married name and where it says "other names" I put my maiden name. I was under the impression this would allow the greencard to be issued in my married name. Now, I received correspondence from NVC and throughout it states my maiden name. Does this mean the greencard will be issued under my maiden name too?

Thanx in advance for your replies

I'm not 100% on this, but I believe the consulate/embassy uses the name on your passport for the visa. And then the green card will come in whatever name is on the visa.

Before my visa interview started, the interviewing officer at the embassy asked me to sign part II of the IV form I sent to the NVC (DS-230?). She said to sign my name just as it appears in my passport. It is not uncommon in Sweden for people to not go by all their given names (which is the case for me). My full name, for example is Sven Björn Borkström (it's not, but just to give you an idea of what I mean) but I only go by Björn Borkström. So my first name is actually my middle name, by American standards at least. But again, that's what she told me, to sign my name as it appears in my passport.

I don't know if this helps or not, but I think Saylin is on to something.

I sent the package today as well with a translation by me, including the statement at the bottom I copied from VJ. I don't think I had to have a translation, because the police clearance was in German (the official language of the country where my interview will be held), but I wanted to avoid an RFE like the plague.

Just called NVC.. my husband has an interview date of November 27th!!! YAY!!! I wish it could be sooner but I will take what we can get..

Now that a date is set, he can contact the IV unit and ask for an earlier date.

He may not get it, but you won't know till he tries.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Do you get an email when your interview date is set or is it via post only? Just wondering if I should be calling from time to time or just wait for the email.

My passport is still valid for a good 3 years and is in my maiden name so this means my greencard will be in that name as well?? Wont this cause problems as I will be using my married surname for all other correspondence? Just a little confused.

Thanx again

If you gave over email addresses to an operator, then the interview letter will be sent by email. NVC only sends correspondence by snail mail if no email addresses are given.

Thanx again

If your documents are still in your maiden name, then all the forms technically should have been filled out in your maiden name, as you don't have any documents to show you changed your last name to your married name. I didn't change (and still haven't changed) my last name, and kept all forms under my maiden name, as I was told by an officer to do.

Whether or not you have problems, I don't know.
