The stated purpose of the "Progress Reports" forum is for case updates, when someone posts a thread indicating an approval at some point in the process. The "Progress Reports" forum is an appropriate place to do so, no separate "congrats" forum is needed. People can choose to read or ignore such threads and they can choose to post or not to post in such threads.

DISCLAIMER: The views expressed in this post are my own. They do not and are not intended to reflect the opinion of VJ Administrators, Moderators, or other Organizers.

That is true. I completely forgot about the progress reports sub-forum laughing.gifheadbonk.gif I was just thinking of the IR-1/CR-1 forum as a lump apparently. But yeah, you're right, the progress reports forum is an appropriate place for all those approval threads. As long as people post properly, otherwise they can be posted in the main IR-1CR-1 forum which is more information/question-based. I take back my previous comments about having a "congrats" forum as Ryan's technically right.

I have a former student who's going to work as an au pair in, I think, the greater NYC area. An au pair visa, does that count as a immigrant visa or a non-immigrant visa?

So let me understand your logic here. The queue is problematic so you're advising people to send more unnecessary emails and that's supposed to help?

-40 points for taking my stuff out of it's context. Bad Form, HufflePuff :(

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

So after your case is completed (I found out by calling the NVC):

when you get the interview scheduled, do you get the email right away (within 24 hours)?

or should I keep calling the NVC and DOS everyday (mon. to fri.)?

No, I take offense to someone taking my stuff out of context, using three lines of my stuff to support an opinion that doesn't wash.

If au pair is related to work, I'm thinking it's a non-immigrant visa. But I'm not 100% on that.

Typically, yes, you get it within a day. But I have seen a few cases where it took almost a week to get the email.

:ot2:

Au pair visa, J1, is a non-immigrant visa. It is temporary (1year, can extend it for another one, I believe), and doesn't give an opportunity of applying for permanent residency.

Your former student is up for a great adventure :)

If you're getting an error, I suggest you refer to post 1, the FAQ. I wrote a question/answer about it ;)
