I want to help speed up the process at the Bogota embassy as far as recieving pack 3.. The mail is horrible outside of Bogota that since I have all the docs,,my fiance and I just fill them out and fax them in before we even get the pack 3 in the mail...My question is, how long after they recieve the pettition from the NVC (they recieved it this morning) should it be in their system? I do not want to fax over anything if it is not in their computer systems and have them throw the petition in the trash. Should I give it a few days, weeks or what. Also, one other question,,,the forms that I have are in english,,,is that a problem at all???

You should allow the U.S. embassy a week to get the case in their system. You also might look to see if there are any Colombian holidays as the embassy observes any local holidays too. They are also staffed with local employees.

Everything should be in English or original documents from her country should have certified translations attached to the original documents.

You might consider using express mail services such as FedEx, DHL or UPS for sending documents as they are more reliable than local mail services. You can check online with each service to see which countries they serve and how quickly things get there. I used FedEx to send documents to my fiancee in Ukraine, but she lived in Kiev so it was not really a problem. If your fiancee lives in a small town, it might be a problem getting the documents to her.

Also, usually you can download the final packets directly from the U.S. embassy web site. In that way you can help fill out the forms and insure the needed documents are provided. Check the U.S. embassy web site for Colombia looking specifically for fiancee visa information.

Good Luck.

Email or call the embassy with the NVC case number and request status, when they indicate that they sent out the instruction packet (Packet 3) then send them the DS-230, and Checklist not before.

Packet 3 was a nightmare for me and my fiance the mail in Cairo is horrible also. And the Embassy recieved his approved K-1 petition packet on August 31st and they sent to him packet 3 on the same day which he never recieved. I had to email the Embassy more than 10 times to even get a response and finally they sent him another packet 3 and he recieved that almost 2 months later :( . So we are now working on packet 3. I think they never sent the packet in the first place. I learned with some Embassies especially Cairo you have to keep on them about certain things. Good luck with the rest of your process.
