When filing for AOS, submit 2 photos and ID for each I-765 and I-131

I just received my marriage certificate in mail and assembling a packet for AOS.

Everything looks good except photos and ID part.

On an instruction page for both 131 and 765, it requires for me to submit 2 photos and copy of Photo ID. But I'm not sure if I should do this for each documents.

I'm submitting these 2 forms along with I-485 and I'm aware that I don't have to pay for 765 and 131. But what about photos and ID? Do I have to do this separately from I-485?

Also, USCIS website stated I-485 fee is $1070 including biometric fee and I'm sure that's up to date. But somewhere on visa journey website it says $1000. I should go with USCIS website, right? I-131 I downloaded from USCIS website said it's valid until 3/31/2012 on the top right corner of first page. So apparently they haven't updated the form and since then, I feel little skeptical about USCIS website ....

Anyway, just wanted to know if I should have 2 photos and a copy of ID for each EAD form and traveling form.

Thank you

I had the same situation after realizing that I sent in only 2 photos, instead of 6 (two each for 485, 765 and 131).

It turned out ok. He got his conditional green card. Whew.

If you sent in 2, you should be ok. BUT if you get RFE'd for lacking 4 more photos, then send it all in.

If you sent in 6, then you should be ok.

From my perspective, it's a gamble as we don't know the temperament of our USCIS folks opening our packages.

Good luck

Send everything. They are separate applications even if related. We personally got an RFE for not sending extra photos w/ the 131. Don't take chances and slow down your app.

Some applicants do get away with only sending 2 photos in total and only including evidence for the i485, treating the 3 forms as one filing. I treated the 3 forms as if 3 different adjudicators sat with each form and evidence and couldn't borrow each other's evidence. Not saying that it's the only right way to go, ofcourse.

Right now, AOS is taking a long time and I'd personally include 3 copies of the i94 and everything else rather than have a potential RFE and being delayed for something I could've prevented.

Good luck with AOS.

It's correct that these are three different applications that all happen to be mailed in the same envelope.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We sent in six (6) photos with each of our AOS petition packets. IMO, in the grand scheme of things, a couple of extra photos is a small price to pay for piece of mind and RFE avoidance (with the associated extra processing and time delay).

YMMV

Can someone correct me on this, but I thought they really only use the photo from your biometrics appointment for both the Green Card and the EAD card? Ive always wonder why they needed more passport style photos. I wonder if they have a end of the year party and everyone brings the "worse" photo that they have received or something. Makes me wonder.

It's for the case itself. Your case stays with USCIS en paper format and those pictures from the time you submitted the first petition throughout interview and AOS simply puts a face on the applicant at the various stages of the process. I know that the picture used for interview is scanned and detects your facial features. I'm more or less convinced the same is done at biometrics appoinment to match them up, just like the fingerprints.

However, I would not be surprised if the extra pictures are used for a game of memory or their own version of who's who. Maybe right before an interview to get into the whole questioning mood.
