Hello Fellow members,

I am new here and i love this forum. I have been reading a lot. Pls i need a help on some issues. My fiancee is from USA and I'm from Nigeria but residing in Turkey. We want to file for k-1 petition. Which address will she use for me, Nigeria or Turkey as i'm not a permanent resident in turkey. I have only 1 year resident permit as a student. I wish to be interviewed in turkey. Is there possibility that it will happen? Also we need a co-sponsor and we are confused about the forms for our co-sponsor. What form exactly is for co-sponsor? Also do our co-sponsor need to have cash in his account or they just wanna know annual income and tax scripts. Pls i will like your advise and answers. Thank you all in advance for helping. A co sponsor does not need a lot of money in the bank account. Assets can be used if needed along with the income requirements.

She will use your current address in Turkey and also list where you previously have resided.

Yes, you can be interviewed in Turkey but one year residency may not be enough by the time the whole visa journey is over so prepare to

renew your student permit, if you are no have a legal resident permit and your interview comes up they may not approve you because of it.

Some get through some don't and I would not risk it.

That means,as you know, registering for classes in the future to keep your student permit in Turkey current and valid.

A K1 takes about 4-6 months at USCIS, then 1-2 months at NVC before you will get an interview. In theory you could get interviewed

after 8-9 months after filing. However, reality may add administrative processing for an undisclosed length of time.

Nigerians do not only have a tough time in Lagos but unfortunately also when going through other consulates, even Turkey so be well

prepared, cross all your t's and dot all your i's and have all your ducks in a row. Front load your petition, meaning send more supporting evidence

than most others do.

You use the I-134, the I-864 is used for adjustment of status later on. There are some consulates that prefer the I-864, yours is not one of them.

The petitioner and the co sponsor fill out one form EACH. Incomes can not be combined. Follow the guides on the tab above closely for the K1

flow chart and requirements and come back with questions if you have any.

1) Your current address now in Turkey.

2) What is your plan after 1 year residency expires? Return to Nigeria or apply for extension to stay in Turkey legally?

3) You'll be interviewed where you have legal residency at the time of interview. If you say you want to be interviewed in Turkey but you are no longe rin Turkey when your case is approved by USCIS I believe that there is a process to send your petition to an alternate country.

4) My friend, your USC has a lot of readings to do using the guides. You will use the form I-134 for the initial embassy interview then a I-864 for the AOS. I know this all sounds like hard but it's not, it's just that you haven't started your homework yet by reading the forums.

Based on your other thread. If I were in your shoes with your USC with you, I would get married in Turkey or Nigeria (you're not getting a US Tourist visa IMHO). Then apply for a CR-1 instead of K1, this will take more than a year so you may not be in Turkey by the time of the interview. I am doing a K1 because I don't have any interest in geting married in Nigeria but since you and your USC are already living together then the CR1 makes more sense.

Just so you know. if you do K-1 with a cosponsor, lagos will deny you. This is from personal experience. They accept co-sponsors for the CR-1/IR-1 but not for the k visas. Although the document says you can use a co-sponsor and other countries/consulates allow that, lagos does not. You are better off getting married and using a co-sponsor for the I-864.

They told you the reason they denied you was cause you had a co-sponsor? This is the first Ive heard such a thing could you elaborate on what happened with you?

There has been confusing information posted for years about Lagos accepting or not accepting co sponsors. One has to keep in mind that other factors

come into play with approval of a co sponsor, there are just too many variables with steady income, supporting evidence and of course under the catch all umbrella of' for immigration purposes only' the co sponsorship falls as well when they want it to.

Some get accepted, some don't. Anyone with definite "we no longer accept co sponsors for anyone" coming straight from a CO's mouth or the web site please post it.

The embassy review should also reveal some acceptance and refusals of co sponsors. I do not see it as a definite no for all currently.

No. K1 and CR1's are not processed in Abuja.

Now at the time a week prior, there was another applicant also here on VJ, she had the same issue but different CO. The CO told her about not accepting the co-sponsor for k visa, however she begged and the CO made an exception. I had informed my husband of this at the time in case the same issue came up during our interview. and he did try to see if this CO would make an exception and she refused.

Most places will look at the total picture. That is why some say that they accept and others say they don't accept. People passing though any interview will first have to deal with whomever they get to interview them and then with what they have as evidence. If you are both well educated and just out of school and have a co sponsor with good job/assets you have a much better chance of them being ok with it than if you are marrying someone that has been on welfare their whole life and has 0 job history with a co sponsor that is only slightly better off.
