Hello Fellow members,

I am new here and i love this forum. I have been reading a lot. Pls i need a help on some issues. My fiancee is from USA and I'm from Nigeria but residing in Turkey. We want to file for k-1 petition. Which address will she use for me, Nigeria or Turkey as i'm not a permanent resident in turkey. I have only 1 year resident permit as a student. I wish to be interviewed in turkey. Is there possibility that it will happen? Also we need a co-sponsor and we are confused about the forms for our co-sponsor. What form exactly is for co-sponsor? Also do our co-sponsor need to have cash in his account or they just wanna know annual income and tax scripts. Pls i will like your advise and answers. Thank you all in advance for helping. God bless.

If you are a citizen of Nigeria, then, you will be interviewed at US Consulate in Nigeria, even, though you are living in Turkey. Others can chime in and correct me if i am wrong.

Your sponsor US citizen fiancée will need to file the K1 papers. Please read the Guides section on this website. It's extremely helpful. Regarding co-sponsor, if he's making below the recommended income guidelines, yes there needs to a co sponsor. USCIS is very strict on this matter, and reject many K1 applicant who fail to show sufficient income.

Your US fiancée should be well aware of filing taxes and income requirements. He should have two to three years of US Income tax reported /documented and available to show. K1 is an expensive and long process. Even slight mistakes in the application will set you back months..so i urge your US fiancée to read and understand all the requirements. If they don't make sense, ask specific questions and I am sure many will help out on this forum.

Good luck

Thanks for your answers. So there is no chance of getting interviewed in turkey? Btw do our age difference pose a red flag?

No problem.. I don't think you will get interviewed in Turkey, unless you provide a compelling reason to USCIS, which will be difficult, since you are a citizen of Nigeria. Consult a good lawyer in this case. I have no clue of Nigerian customs and age differences. I have read of others on the forum with age differences from 10-15 yrs, so it's not uncommon. More important is the support of evidence your fiancée will be providing to prove the relationship is real.

Nigeria is one of those countries where it's a tough process to K1 visa approved. Ask fellow Nigerians on the forum for their personal experiences..

good luck

Thanks so much you have been helpful. I am considering of going to US with visitor's visa and then marry my fiancee over there. How about this? Is it possible? Is there any chance it will go well.

A single Nigerian citizen will have a very difficult time obtaining a visitor visa.

If you are legally there in Turkey then the interview will be in Ankara.

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE YOUR INTERVIEW IF YOU ARE STILL A PERMANENT RESIDENT AT THE TIME OF YOUR INTERVIEW.But if you are not legally staying in that country you cannot go through your interview, YOU WILL NEED TO RETURN TO NIGERIA

Hopes this will help

As far as I know, it is possible to get interviewed in a country other than your home country as long as you are there legally. Others will hopefully chime in with more details about this.

As for traveling to the U.S. to marry, you'll have a lot of trouble getting a U.S. tourist visa with a Nigerian passport, especially if you disclose that your purpose for the trip is to get married (which doesn't necessarily mean that you're planning to stay and try to adjust status after your marriage, but the embassy will assume that regardless). Africans who are young, single, and without strong ties to their home countries (good job, a wife/children, etc.) have virtually no chance of being issued U.S. tourist visas.

Try the subsaharan Africa subforum for more advice from Nigerians, and good luck!

What are your ages. Unfortunately if the woman is significantly older its a red flag. Especially is she's out of child bearing age. But doesnt mean you wont get approve just know its a battle to face. Im sure your just inquiring but you wont need your co sponsor information to send your k1 application. Its once your application has been approved, then you will be needing it for the interview.

Also there is no point in going to us to get married, its all the same waiting game initally

I am a lil scared about all of this right now. My lady is older than me and we have been leaving together in Turkey since January 2012. I am legal here in Turkey with a 1 year resident permit as a student. I want to be sure that i will get this visitor's visa before i apply. Moreover if i travel to US and then marry my fiancee can i adjust to reside there permanently? I really love her so much and she have been to Nigeria to be with my family. I have proofs. The age difference flag is ringing on my head. How will i overcome this at the interview? Thanks all for your vital answers

Marry now and then file for a spouse visa.

I would be very surprised if you got a US tourist visa. But, you can find out by applying now and going for the interview.

If what everyone is saying is correct I would suggest that you file now for your k-1 visa so you are still a legal resident in Turkey if that is where you want to do your interview. Country's that have high visa fraud rarely get tourist visas to the US unless you have extremely and I mean extremely good prove that you will go back to your own country. Job,wife/kids is not going to do it for where you are. Best of luck to you!

No, you will not get a visitors visa. On the form you have to fill out for the visitor visa you will be asked if you have a USC fiance. Answered true

to fact and you will get denied because they will assume you won't return to your country. If you answer incorrectly with no then you will get likely also denied because of your country of origin. Then you will end up filing for a K1 or CR1 and when the previous tourist visa application (assuming you apply for it against everyone's advice here ) is cross checked with the K1 or CR1 application, you will be denied because of misrepresentation i.e. lying about your USC fiance.

A visiting visa is for visiting. Entering with intent to marry makes it fraud. Forget about the visiting visa and focus on the K1 or CR1.

I answered your questions in the other thread in regards to a co sponsor.

Yes, the age difference will matter, it may be a bit difficult but certainly doable.

Yes, of course you can be interviewed in Turkey. Read my answer in your other thread.

It is a great bonus having lived together for almost a year. That is great and will help you. Get all your evidence together to support it, both names on rent lease, showing a mingled life, lots of photos together etc.

It is also great that she has been to Nigeria to meet your family.

You have things in your favor with the K1 or CR1 so don't mess it up with the visiting visa which will be wasted time and money and time is not on your side with only one year of residence permit in Turkey. Get going a.s.a.p. and plan ahead to potentially renew your permit by knowing you may

need to spend more money to register for classes to be able to extend/renew your student permit in order to be legal when your interview rolls around.

Compare the K1 with the CR1 in the VJ guides and chose what is best for you both.

Wishing you a smooth journey ~

Hello Hippo,

I'm in a similar situation like you I'm a Nigerian student here in Netherlands although my K1 petition has been approved and currently waiting for Interview. Plssss dont even try the visitors visa, beleive me it wont work unless miracle happens! The best is to apply for the K1 or CR petition, both are better than a visitors visa(but you need to wait for at least 6 months for approval). Any information related to the procedure for K1 and CR petition is easily accessible here, plus there are experience and wonderful members who are ready to help anytime. Wish you all the best!!!
