Hi.

We sent our I-130 visa application in Jan this year. Then in May USCIS required us to send the original marriage certificate to them for additional evidence....so we did.

We have sent the affidavit of support and civil documents to NVC now, but yesterday they wrote us an email that we need to submit the original marriage certificate. We would expect it to be on the case already, since we've sent it to USCIS, so I just called NVC and was told that sometimes USCIS don't send the original marriage certificate to them. Now we need to get a certified copy of it and send to them instead.

I am shocked!! Anybody else had that happen to them?? We would kinda like to get our original marriage certificate back, it's a quite important document to us. So if anybody have any ideas how to get that, we would be happy to hear it :)

Thanks

Sarah & René

I got mine back at the interview date.

The consulate used a file clip to group our all original civil documents, including all police checks.

Only NVC needs original civil documents.

Can you please fill our your timeline. It helps everyone :)

You should call back the NVC and ask for a supervisor to review your case file. The operators can't see what paperwork is in the file, only what they see on the computer screen.

I-130 Process

USCIS: 04/23/2012: I-130 mailed

NVC: 07/30/2012: Case received at NVC
U.S Embassy Interview: 11/01/2012: Interview and Visa approved!

Removing Conditions

10/19/14: Sent I-751

04/17/15: Approved

Thank you. I've filled out the timeline now ;)

Do you think it would help to talk to a supervisor to get the process speeded up too?? I have a possibility to acquire a small business, so I would have a job from day 1 in the states. But the offer expires Dec. 31., and then it'll be sold to another, so it would be nice if I could have my visa before that. Do you think they will listen to that or if they don't really care?

Thanks,

René

Great, thanks for the timeline information! Were you able to get a supervisor to review your case?

There are only a few reasons NVC will expedite, medical emergencies, military, financial hardship, and possibly some others that I haven't read about here on VJ. You can try the financial hardship angle, here are some threads that may help you: http://www.visajourney.com/search/index.php?cx=007424365766759747816%3Auy9flr-th5y&cof=FORID%3A10&q=nvc+expedite+financial+hardship&sa=Search&siteurl=www.visajourney.com%2Fforums%2Ftopic%2F142621-nvc-expedite-request%2F&ref=www.google.com%2Fcse%3Fcx%3D007424365766759747816%253Auy9flr-th5y%26cof%3DFORID%253A10%26q%3Dnvc%2Bexpedite%26sa%3DSearch%26siteurl%3Dwww.visajourney.com%252Fforums%252Fuser%252F138808-cairns%252F%26ref%3Dwww.visajourney.com%252Fforums%252Findex.php%253Fapp%253Dforums%2526module%253Dpost%2526section%253Dpost%2526do%253Dreply_post%2526f%253D110%2526t%253D391541%2526qpid%253D5746349%26ss%3D2247j702403j11%26ad%3Dn9%26num%3D10%26rurl%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.visajourney.com%252Fsearch%252Findex.php%253Fcx%253D007424365766759747816%25253Auy9flr-th5y%2526cof%253DFORID%25253A10%2526q%253Dnvc%252Bexpedite%2526sa%253DSearch%2526siteurl%253Dwww.visajourney.com%25252Fforums%25252Fuser%25252F138808-cairns%25252F%2526ref%253Dwww.visajourney.com%25252Ffo&ss=5951j1159543j39 .

If your AOS has been approved and you're only waiting for the IV to get approved it may speed a bit. BUT, it is definitely worth a try. Read through the threads above and remember to send the email request with the supervisor subject link, see post 2 here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/297049-email-to-expedite/

Good luck!

No we sent a certified copy to them instead, and then I guess we'll see if it shows up at the interview.

I decided to not try to get the case expedited, and just hope for the best. I just called them and they informed that our case is completed, and they are waiting for an interview date from Stockholm... So I hope it's possible to get the visa before christmas still :)

Congratulations on the case closed!

Hopefully you'll get the interview scheduled soon. After your interview is scheduled wait a few days for the embassy to receive the casefile from the NVC. Once the embassy has your case file you can ask them to rescheduled the interview to an earlier date if any are available. Stockholm's Immigrant Visa unit replies fast.

Best of luck!

I still haven't gotten a date yet, but hope to get it soon. That's awesome that you were able to get the interview rescheduled. I'm gonna try that for sure :)

Thank you for all your information :)
