Hello everyone and anyone who read this. I am an Amercian Citizen and my husband is Canadien and on April 12, 2012 we received our receipt number. Well we are past our 5 months and we are getting stressed and frustrated with not receiving a response. We have already put in a service request and they just tell us to put in another one. Our lawyer told us that they are taking a long time because of Obama giving the illegal immigrants a free pass. I'm sure he used some other words but no one can tell me how much long do we have to wait and how long is too long? We filed in the California Service Center btw. It's very hard waiting and I just can't fit my head to understand why it's taking a long time, we have a son together, we have been married for 4 years, he has no criminal history. I just don't understand. Has anyone out there been in my shoes?

6 months is normal processing time.. then you should file a service request. Your lawyers remark about free pass is out of line as 5 months is not outside normal processing time. We went just over 6 1/2 months the first time.. AND the second time.

So after 6 months I should start expecting a response?

6 months is the normal wait time to receive approval notice. If you don't hear anything after the 6 month mark, put in a service request.

6 months is normal for K-1 applications sent to Vermont. This is not normal for IR-1 visas (I-130) sent to CSC. CSC is approving these usually in about 3 months or less. Check out normal processing times for CSC in the Processing Times bar at the top. I-130s sent to Vermont for the IR-1/CR-1 should be around 5 - 5.5 months. This is the present situation. Not saying that couldn't change.
