Bringing my wife and step-daughter to the U.S. on a K-3/K-4 visa. My step-daughter is only 9 years old. I know that the U.S. embassy in Bogota does not require my step-daughter to attend the interview due to her age....but I've read elsewhere that they would let her in with her mom. My question: Should we bring her (i.e., would it strengthen our case)? We really don't want to have her sitting around for hours, exposed to the weather. But, we would do it if it would help.

I know that I am not required to be there....but most posts indicate that I they will allow me in. So, I am planning to go.

Thanks,

Mike

I could be wrong, but elsewhere I've read that all family members listed in the petition need to be present. Just to be on the safe side, wouldn't it be better to bring your step-daughter to the interview?

Best of luck to you!

I have the same question. I am hoping we receive an interview in Novemeber. My Fiance's daughter is 6. If there is any risk of this causing a problem I would take her with us, but I would agree about not subjecting her to this whole process unless there was a risk. Has anyone received a K2 without the child being present? Also, does the child need to have a medical exam in Bogota? I guess if that is the case, she will be attending either way. ??

Each consulate is different. I know for Kiev the K-2 is required to attend the interview. I would think your interview invitation letter or P3/P4 information would indicate what they want you to do.

YMMV

According to the Packet 3/4 instructions I got from Peter (which is for a K1/K2 visa interview), children under 14 are exempt from attending the interview at the embassy in Bogota. However, we also know from other posts that folks have been told NOT to bring a spouse or fiance...and then have been asked why that person did not attend the interview.

So, again, my question is really a matter or opinion or personal experience - is it better to be safe and bring the child? Or is this absolutely something that is unnecessary given the age?

As far as the medical exam goes...the instructions say that anyone under 15 is except from the HIV test and chest x-ray. But everyone must get the medical exam and must have the necessary vaccinations. The embassy provides a list of vaccinations necessary. For children between 7 and 17 years, the vaccinations are TD, polio, varicela, hepatitis B and MMR.
