My son has a GC but SSA cant issue SSN. Status not updated?

I filed for my son's SSN after he received his 2-year green card but after a month, SSA sent me a letter in behalf of my son stating "your document show you are not allowed to work in the U.S and you do not have a valid reason to get a non-work Social Security Number"

I called SSA about this and they told me to contact DHS, DHS then forwarded me to immigration and they advised me to schedule and go to our local USCIS office to update his status. Why is that? We both had our green card 4 months ago - went to SSA to update my name (maiden name to married name) without any problems. Why is my son's status not updated yet when we both filed at the same time, interviewed at the same time and received our card at the same time? The local office is like 7-hr drive from my place. What a hassle!!! Anyone experience this? By the way, my son is only 8. A friend of mine filed for her daughter who is only 2 and had no problems at all. :hehe:

I would suggest going to SSA and talk to the supervisor/manager. Let them know that you are familiar with filing an administrative complaint process and ready to follow up. Of course, that means that you should familiarize yourself with the process. I bet this will get the ball rolling pretty quickly.

do what they said - go to infopass (you can try to call instead, but infopass works better for this purpose). The problem is your son's data entered in USCIS system incorrectly (not your fault, just error in the system), and SS can't see him. An officer on the infopass can check and update information, after this SSA will give your son SS number.

Just simply go to SSA office again, be sure to bring your son's 2 yr GC and him. And show the card to the officer and say want to update status. SSA usually can't see your son's information on DHS system as they updated slowly. Hope this will help you out.
