How long have you been apart from your bf/gf?

We've been apart 6 months not as long as others I know but the key to a successful long distance relationship is communication and trust. Talk as much and as often as you can you will get to know each other a lot better. Plus skype is amazing 100 times better than emails or chatting. But you have to trust one another. I know of a lot of relationship long distance or not that do not survive bc there isn't trust.

But coping with the separation is difficult. You just have to talk and try being there as best you can for one another. Sometimes the same old how was your day gets boring so my fiance and I tend to talk about a variety of stuff we try not to talk about the same thing over and over or else it would be boring. And we absolutely do not talk about how long this process is taking or going to take. We never talk about the visa unless its updates on VSC approvals or if we need info from the other to help prepare for the next step. When we did talk about the visa a lot it would just end up in fights. I know a lot of ppl who fight about the visa so my fiance and I don't talk about it. Rather we talk about the future our wedding, our life together, things I'm doing to fix up the house. Things like that.

What was the longest period of time you were apart and how did you cope?

Welcome to the forum.

Oh, probably 4-5 months apart at a time. We did Skype, QQ (6AM Seattle time ~9pm China time), and email every day, . Looking back it was grueling. However, we both agree that all of the waiting and hard work was certainly worth the effort! :luv:

Good luck on your visa journey.

Our longest time apart has been about 3 months. We skype daily, chat via Facebook messenger or texts, we write each other cards/send gifts every once in a while... and just plan for times ahead :)

I've been lucky to have visited her in March and then late June into July. If VSC continues at this snail pace, I may go back in mid to late January or February. Fingers crossed that she may be on her way here by then though. Skype is certainly a savior and I agree about the good communication aspect of a relationship. Every day that passes we learn more and more about each other.

We were apart for a total of 424 consecutive days (Vermont was slow back then too). Now that we're together, I don't even remember how difficult it was. What's 424 days apart compared to a lifetime together?

We'll have been apart ~9.5 months by the next time we see each other. The last month or two have actually been the hardest, because my memory of what it was like to be in the same place and what he's actually like in person has suddenly started fading rapidly. He mostly doesn't have internet at home, so we mainly keep in contact by phone, although there are timezone, cost, and work schedule limitations even with that. I'm tired. A little over a month to go, though, and hopefully the visit will give us the burst of energy we need.

The longest we've been apart is 6 months; even though our relationship was only five weeks old when I left to go back home, we made it through. It definitely wasn't easy, but I'm glad I stuck my teeth in him and didn't want to let go :innocent:. Now, we see each other about every three months. Being young without a serious job has it's benefits!
