Okay, So I found Visa Journey at the very beginning of this whole K1 process in April when I filed, and it has been very interesting to read people's stories. However, it JUST occurred to me last week that MOST of the people on Visa Journey met online! Now, I have no problem with this, but it did also occur to me that those of us who didn't meet online are probably NOT on Visa Journey! The nature of the beast of meeting online means you will continue to post and participate on some sort of forum. So, I wonder, especially for the RUB people, who met in person? Particularly, who met in the states? My fiance was on an F1 Visa for a few years before I met him. We were engaged within 6 months. I called things off for a few months and he finished school and went home. NOW, I'm waiting through this HORRIBLY LONG AND EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL WAITING PERIOD OF OVER 6 MONTHS!!!! <sigh> I apologize for the melo-dramatic outburst, but this is just DANG hard! We were in the same town for soo long before all this. Then he had to leave and I had NO clue it would be this long. I especially didn't realize how bitter I would be that others who applied AFTER me would get approval so fast! I have a sense of injustice, and even though I GUESS I'm happy they get to be together, I really am NOT happy! I want MY ZHENYA here again! Yeah, I probably should have just married him when we he was on his F1, but we were not ready.

Any thoughts? Is waiting as hard when you never had the luxury of living 10 minutes away from each other and getting so used to being in the same place?

Both the people that meet online and offline are all feeling the pain of waiting. There is nothing that can be done to undo that. I'm sure the moderators will be around soon to move your topic to the RUB sub forum since you are specifically interested in hearing from the people there.

There are some of us around, but I don't know any place where this is consolidated (though most in the AOS -other forum met in person). I was also surprised how many met online, and how old so many were.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

We met in person first, right here. You might be surprised how many of us in the RUB forum did. The online group can be more vocal at times, but plenty of them lurk (watch but don't post) too.

Any way, welcome.

We met in person first, although not in the US. We were both performing extended missionary service in Siberia, although my wife is from Peter. As Brad said, I think you will find a lot of couples on the RUB forum who met in person, although I would say that the number will decrease significantly if you limit it to those who met in person in the US.

I really don't see that it matters all that much, though. The only difference I see is that you are more likely to find scammers on line. But if you get to the visa process then it's unlikely you've got a scammer. Most won't wait that long for their money. By this, I'm talking about short term money scammers. Longer term green card scammers are hard to characterize since it's difficult to really pin point who they are unless they come out and say it.

Not RUB, but we met in person first (in his country). It *does* seem quite rare here on VJ: even the people who didn't meet on dating sites still mostly met via Facebook, online games, etc.

those of us who didn't meet online are probably NOT on Visa Journey!

I wouldn't say that....VJ is mainly for Visa-related discussions and the visa process is the same regardless of where you first met.

The nature of the beast of meeting online means you will continue to post and participate on some sort of forum.

Huh? Please explain?

Any thoughts? Is waiting as hard when you never had the luxury of living 10 minutes away from each other and getting so used to being in the same place?

The waiting is the same. We online folks may be more adept at using these medium than those who don't since that is how we are able to communicate. Communication can the same; IMO what's more important is the content of that communication, rather than physical proximity.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

I met my wife 9 years ago. In November she will have been here 7 years so count me in the group that met offline.

As for waiting, according to your time line you are still on schedule. Sure the separation is tough, we all know about it and remember the frustration of waiting and not knowing what is happening. Just try to be patient and get prepared for the last aspects of the process to getting him here. Make sure you review the necessary documents needed for the embassy interview and the police and medical reports that must be completed before the interview.

Hang in there a little longer, you are getting close. As for others that have been approved faster than you, that is a rarity and many more are waiting longer than you. :crying:

We are also in the offline group. We were introduced by mutual friends that thought that we both needed someone in our lives. :D

No longer in the hands of the USCIS, for my wife at least, next up MIL.

I met my fiancee while I was working and living in the Philippines. Met her the old fashion way.,....... Asked her out in person. Kinda odd I know lol.. As for waiting. We have not been together since August 2011. So now 13 months and counting. It is okay as I needed to get myself reacclimated here in USA prior to petitioning. In the scope of things this time apart is short compared to when we are finally reunited and married.

We did not meet on-line - we meet in person first. I met my husband on a medical mission trip - he was my translator :) I definitely learned a lesson in patience during the K1 process! Hang in there!
