"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Not expert on bianary counting, but isn't that photo wrong if it's saying the time is 10:48 and then tells you to count the number 1, 2, 4 and 8? Wouldn't that be 12:48 if that's what they mean by adding the values?

No, the photo's right. In the hours section there's a 1 in the tens' place and a 0 in the ones' place, meaning the hour is 10. In the minutes section there's a 4 in the tens' place and a 8 in the ones' place. In the seconds section there is a 1+2=3 in the tens' place and a 2+4=6 in the ones' place. :)

It's kinda wrong -- it's not a true binary clock but rather "binary-decimal"

(they take decimal digits and represent them in binary form.)

1 -> 1 . . . (1 + 0*2 + 0*4 + 0*8)

0 -> . . . . (0 + 0*2 + 0*4 + 0*8)

:

4 -> . . 1 . (0 + 0*2 + 1*4 + 0*8)

8 -> . . . 1 (0 + 0*2 + 0*4 + 1*8)

:

3 -> 1 1 . . (1 + 1*2 + 0*4 + 0*8)

6 -> . 1 1 . (0 + 1*2 + 1*4 + 0*8)

OK I'll take you word on it. I thought it was like one of those screwed up ads they put in the back of Consumer Reports in that they are saying the time is 10:48 and the arrows are pointing to a 1,2, 4 and 8

There are 10 types of people in the world.... those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

actually, those of you who say you hate daylight savings time...you actually hate standard time, right?

i'm actually glad for the time change...it's been so difficult waking up in the mornings!

wasn't the adjustment of the dates for DST a part of the energy bill that was passed in congress this year?

Yes :yes: Apparently some here don't understand when daylight savings time begins and ends....Turning the clock back now puts us back to Standard Time......

LOL...my husband and I had this discussion last night. He thought that DST sucked until he realized that the fact that DST was ending was what sucked! It was a lively discussion to say the least! :lol:

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I think one reason they still set the clocks back is so kids aren't going to school in the dark. If school starts 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. and you didn't turn the clock back an hour kids would be going to school in the dark by the end of November.

Sunrise for December 1st is 7:00 a.m. EST, so without the time change sunrise would be 8:00 a.m.

Hmmm good point... that could actually be dangerous for those kids who have to wait for the bus.

Yes, but now we have to drive home from work at night :angry: I really hate standard time....the days are getting shorter as it is, then we are suddenly plunged into darkness; and as has been mentioned, we spend pretty much all the daylight hours either going to or at work...just ain't civilized :ranting:
