I am sure many of you know my story. I cancelled the paperwork for my husband when he took off prematurely after he thought his green card was all set. Of course he is still in the United States and I am sure has no plans to leave. I am trying to not worry about that since truly as long as my life is ok he can do whatever he wants. I can only do so much to get myself out of this mess, then I just need to let it be with immigration. I do not have a mission in life to make his life hell or worry about what he is doing daily.

Well today I get a message alerting me that someone has been trying to hack in my fb. Thinking this was spam I was getting ready to delete it but an email address caught my eye. When I saw the name on the email address my heart sunk. The email address is one of his friends in his home country. It clearly stated that this was the email address attempting to get into my account. Now i am thinking is the first facebook then on to my bank accounts? I am so sick to my stomach I can't stand it anymore. I feel so lost and unprotected.

Sorry this is happening to you. Be careful and proactive. Change all your bank accounts / passwords. Your ex seems to be very dangerous. Hope you get over with this soon.

The last few weeks I also got notifications in my yahoo account that my email is being hacked by someone from Nigeria. It happened few times. I was advised to change my password. I was quite worried because I saved the passwords of my 2 online bank accounts (peso and dollar accounts) in my email folder so I can easily check it online when I forgot it, just in case. I realized it was not a good idea because nowadays there are lots of hackers. I don't even know anyone from Nigeria. I was wondering how and where did they get my email account. I presume maybe because sometimes I used to register my email on a particular websites for some products / services I got interested. Not sure, but it was happened to me.

Anyway, take care and hope things will work favoring you. God bless!

Good call! I have a folder of my password/account requests that I will go and delete now.

I think the suggestions will help protect all of us and most especially the OP.

I would just like to point out that deleting one's Facebook account the "normal" way does not actually delete anything, it just deactivates it. That just means other people can not find that profile anymore. However, if you ever log in again, you will find that everything is right where you left it, all of your pictures, friends, messages, etc. That means that only one successful login is enough to reactivate an account.

If someone really wanted to delete their Facebook account, the link to do it is here. Be careful as this will actually delete your data and you will not be able to get it back if you change your mind later.

Impossible, I am sorry to hear this has happened to you. As others have mentioned, make sure you protect yourself, both physically and virtually. Change your locks, change your passwords and PINs, get new credit cards/bank accounts. I hope your life brightens up soon. (F)

seems like a good idea, but if they DID get into her account, they could change the address on the account, apply for credit card/loan etc. Perhaps alert the bank to put a note on your accounts, they can also easily close your account and open a new one, without you having to change banks.

Facebook - change the email address you use to log in, there are quite a few security measures you can use for facebook, learn them, use them.

I would also contact any credit reporting agency. I believe that they can set something up for a small fee to alert you if anyone is attempting to open up any new accounts using your name or personal information. You can also alert them and let them know that your information may have been potentially hacked.

Terminate your FB account, send to FB notice of hacking, change your bank accounts and credit cards.

Use two-step log in verification for Facebook and your email if your provider offers it (Gmail does, for example). The idea is that in order to log in from a new device, whether it is a phone or computer, you will have to enter a code that is texted to your phone. So this means 1. that a hacker would have to have both your password and your cellphone to get into your account and 2. you will know if someone has successfully cracked your password because you will get the text with the log in code. Here's are Facebook's instructions.

Get a notebook and record them and hide the notebook somewhere safe in case your home is broken into.

Or better yet, download a password manager so you can create a new, random password for every site you log into and only have to remember one master password. Another advantage is that you won't have to change every password you use if one gets cracked (like you would have to with the base password suggestion above) because each one is completely different from the others. LastPass is a popular pw manager, and the basic version is free, but it has also been threatened with possible security breaches, so here are other alternatives.

Prevention overkill is a lot easier than trying to pick up the digital pieces.

I think you are worrying too much about the FB account being hacked. First of all if someone tries to hack your account there is no direct way to find out their email address. They will try to login with your email address not theirs. If someone tries to login to your account from outside US they have to go through additional security questions to confirm that they really want to login from that new location. I travel a lot and this extreme security is for me inconvenience at times. If you received a Facebook alert that appears to be from a known email address then it is either hoax or fishing attempt to get some of your data in a response. And even then most likely the sender is not who it appears to be. There are many trojans and viruses that hijack someones address book and send out spam using the gathered email addresses.

I would talk to your husband. The probability that neither him nor his friend have any malicious intent is very high.

Probably not a good idea. Husband is more likely to use it against OP if she contacts him.

Regarding facebook/other accounts - please nevernever ever save your passpords any other place than your brain. I use 3 different passwords. I once had a password that was p5ndSligx2 which made sense to me but nobody seemed to want to guess that one. I'm just saying, when you change your password, don't change it to something that can be traced to your email, your family dog or you.

Secondly, you can change the email you use on facebook. The more common your name/mail is, the more likely it is for someone to guess it, and the same goes for receiving junkmail when your email consists of normal words.

A bit off topic, I have no advise on how to deal with your husband/exhusband other than staying away from him and avoid any contact.

I would change email accts and everything. He can log onto to Facebook

If he knows ur email password . He slogs onto acct like hotmail or yahoo . If Facebook sends notifications to those email addresses he can

Get to Facebook thru email acct.

I agree that FB us least of concerns Nigerians are very skilled at this. I would change everything and get the identity shield and put fraud alerts on all credit file with each credit agency. I would also file report with local police that u think u could be victim of identity fraud. I would also get a new drivers license number.

I opened a safe deposit box and put anything sensitive there

You do have to be proctive much harder to clean up on back end

Oh I would also get. Po box and change address to there. Have post office hold ur mail until u can get everything changed over

Is there no one out there that knows how to help this lady put an end to this ??

Would getting a congressional person involves help to bring attention to how we become victim to a person that scammed another and is terrorizing her for a Greencard

Thank you everyone for your response. To the person who said I would not get an email form FB with the persons exact address, I am just confused as to why the address ended up being someone who knew my husband and is not someone whom I ever had spoken to on the internet. It just seems to be to much of a coincidence.I have changed all my passwords and added additional security to my bank accounts.

Again thank you so much to everyone who has responded.
