I am sure many of you know my story. I cancelled the paperwork for my husband when he took off prematurely after he thought his green card was all set. Of course he is still in the United States and I am sure has no plans to leave. I am trying to not worry about that since truly as long as my life is ok he can do whatever he wants. I can only do so much to get myself out of this mess, then I just need to let it be with immigration. I do not have a mission in life to make his life hell or worry about what he is doing daily.

Well today I get a message alerting me that someone has been trying to hack in my fb. Thinking this was spam I was getting ready to delete it but an email address caught my eye. When I saw the name on the email address my heart sunk. The email address is one of his friends in his home country. It clearly stated that this was the email address attempting to get into my account. Now i am thinking is the first facebook then on to my bank accounts? I am so sick to my stomach I can't stand it anymore. I feel so lost and unprotected.

That was what I was thinking. I didnt know if I just needed to close out the accounts and reopen them in the same place or just change banks all together. I just dont get this, I am not bothering him, he is where he wants to be. I am sure he will get what he wants in the end. What I do not understand is why facebook of all accounts, because I am sure that was not the real target.

What if he hacked your FB account and posted a message, purportedly from you, where you discuss being physically abusive to your husband. Do you think that might be useful for a VAWA filing?

If I were in your shoes, I'd keep the accounts open but open a new account (preferably at a credit union) and move most of my money to the new account. Keeping the old accounts open will give them a false target to focus on.

seems like a good idea, but if they DID get into her account, they could change the address on the account, apply for credit card/loan etc. Perhaps alert the bank to put a note on your accounts, they can also easily close your account and open a new one, without you having to change banks.

Facebook - change the email address you use to log in, there are quite a few security measures you can use for facebook, learn them, use them.

Have you thought of pictures that you have in facebook that he doesn't have access to any other way? He could be - and I admit we don't know - be trying to build the history and proof of relationship, etc., he'll need later, when he adjusts his status, however he goes about doing that.

Not only pictures, but conversation histories, any of those things could be the motive.

Learn to use the privacy settings.

According to an article I read on FB security, it is the first choice for hacking. A lot of people use the same password for FB as they do for their other e-mails as well as for on-line banking and such. I think you should change each of your different on-line accounts and e-mails to a completely unique password. Get a notebook and record them and hide the notebook somewhere safe in case your home is broken into.

Make sure your FB account is unlinked from everything that you can. The linking weakens your personal security.

Maybe his friend is just a wierdo. Change all your passwords and since your concerned about your bank account, just go close it and open a new one. You dont have to feel unprotected these are really easy things to combat.

The notebook full of passwords is a bad idea unless you have a safety deposit box (even home safes aren't very secure).

What you need to do is construct a root or base password and add to it for each site so that no two are the same but you'll be able to easily remember it for any site.

Example: Base0 is your base component. Then real passwords could be:

ABC Credit Union: Base0ABCCUVisa Journey: Base0K1VISAFacebook: Base0FACE

For this to work you need to remember:

Do not use a real word in either your native language or English.Include a number as the separator between the base and the site specific parts (most sites require mix of upper/lower case and at least 1 number).Never tell anyone that you're using this.

This is why I don't do facebook. Too many creeps out there. Do you really need to be on fb? I would just deactivate my account. Also you need to be very careful because desperate people will do anything and everything possible to get what they want even if they have to ruin other peoples' life on the process

Be Safe! You also have to remember that your husband or ex husband was living with you for quite sometimes so who know, he couldve been observing you all this while. Did you guys had joint accounts together? Your hubby seems to be a smart one by having his friends out of the country doing his dirty work so your job is to be a step ahead of him at all times.

It's crazy how you have to live with all this and not feel safe in your own skin because of a crazy ex...sigh. Be Strong and pray that this nightmare will be over soon..

Do you really need Facebook? Perhaps create a alias account and delete your current one? Also it's a good idea to save the message with the email address that's trying to hack into your account or perhaps take a screen shot of it. There should be an option for reporting it on Facebook. For banking I would create unique passwords and do not use the same password for different accounts. A hacker can get into any account with the help of software that they use.

really sorry to hear that your going through all this. I agree with the above post about hacking into fb and send him self messages to use in his VAMA claims. change your fb password, make it a little complicated like mixing upper and lower case and use some numbers. good luck

Time to change all of your passwords and delete nearly everything from FB, if not the entire account.
