5 months is just how long on avergae to get through USCIS. You still have about 4 to 8 weeks at NVC than waiting for an interview, Realistically you are looking at another 3 to 5 months if all goes well. and your embassy isn;t backlogged and you have all your paperwork eady at NVC stage and no RFE's.

But you have to get through USCIS first. Sorry.

The average is 5 months according to USCIS website for I-130 to be approved. Vermont currently is taking much longer for NOA2 approval which is the I-130. There is no exact time, just need to be patient and wait, trust me its not easy. After you receive your NOA2 then it goes to NVC and adds about 3-4 months to finish the process. I was noticing that for Colombia its taking about 4-6 months for I-130 approval for California Service Center. A total of about 9 months for the full process with no RFE. Again, each case is different it might be faster or longer. Im expecting to have my wife here in April at the latest. I'm hoping sooner, much sooner.

Yes, i agree you have to have a lot of patience. In the mean time, you should start gathering all of the required documents you will need for the next stage and beyond, if you want to speed the process up yourself and save a lot of time. Good luck!

Now is the time to become an expert on the NVC stage, as there are shortcuts to save time and lots of work to do before any interview notice.

Skype is a lifesaver, start getting your NVC documents that don't expire. It will save time and headaches later on. Research, research will save confusion and doubts.

I would recommend gathering tax records for the past 3 years, pay stubs, employment letter for the AOS package. For you DS-230 package, you will need your spouse's original signature on the Visa Application, Spouse Birth Cert., original copy, copy of her passport bio page, her Pasado Judicial, which you can now get online (go to antecendentes.policia.gov) you just need her No. de cedula, and passport photos for your spouse. I called the NVC any time I had questions and they were helpful, but there was a 20-30 min wait. I also emailed the embassy in Bogota and they replied within 24 hours. Start gathering things for your proof of relationship, letters, photos, plane ticket stubs, etc. Also, just to clarify, I spoke with the NVC a couple of weeks ago and the documents in Spanish DO NOT need to be translated for the NVC stage.

I am currently waiting for the NVC to give me an interview date.

Hope this helps a little and good luck, any ?'s don't hesitate to ask.
