Your thoughts are correct. Don't give that Attorney any (more) money or handle your case. However, it is Filed within 2 years of last seeing eachother, not knowing eachother.

thank you very much! we only paid them $100 for looking over our I-129F papers. we have everything except for a visa style picture that my fiance needs to get. can she scan signed documents and the picture or will she have to mail out the originals for me to send in with the paper work?

our original idea was do the K1, have her come to the states, get married cheap, save up together then go back to DR and have a really nice wedding for her family and friends.

the lawyer had asked us to forget about K1 marry her in DR they translate all the documents then after she gets her passport and birth certificate she can then come to the states so we can be together. for $2500 of course.

It seems to me the lawyer is trying to just make some money?

You don't need a lawyer, you need VJ. You just have to personally meet face to face within the last two years before filling...

good. thanks. obviously we want to be together sooner than later. I think our plan to do K1 and get married in the states is a better idea than the other option of getting married in DR first and doing paper work. I will talk to her and see what she thinks.

thanks for the help!

As I recall and know as a fact to a few questions here: If you go the K-1 route. She can scan the G-325 with the information but will require a ORIGINAL in Ink Signature and Date. Original Passport style photos (not copies) to attach to the 325.. Yes, everything should be translated in English. (Make it a priority to aquire her Passport now)

The Birth Certificate should be Best Color Copy front and Back.

I researched this before going to the Philippines so we filled the paperwork out together and I brought it back to file.

Again: If your Attorney wanted $2,500.00 to start with but said you don't qualify because you have'nt known eachother 2 years. FOR SHAME. Get the idea. ? LOL

You don't need a lawyer, it's a pretty straight-forward process. Save your money for sending the I-129F application. Good luck!

You don't entrar need a lawyer with VJ you will find all the info. You need to know many and many of us are doing/did this process on our own and have successful brought our husband/fiance is here with out the help of a lawyer waste of time and money in my opinion own.

Now as for him yell you guys to marry in Dr first he was probably saving you a couple of buck in you pockects... This is a choice of preference... You marry if you like or you file K1 and marry money in the states here. Where there is more paperwork involved and it doesnt stop at ok we are married that's it... You have to apply for a green card for her and a social security card etc... The are the benefit when you get married you paid for to get all in one shot.

As for time length they are both at the same time not 5/6 months to get the petition approve. Before its of to you consulate for a interview date (the real approval of visa process)

You came to the right please we are here to help just read the guides on K1 and you will see you will have you fiance soon...

PS you do not have to know the person for two years but you must have to meet once within two year before filing you petition. Original documents needed ..

Like the others have stated to you. One, you def don't need a lawyer and two, vas a tener que hacer más paperwork like Godsgift advised you if you go the I-129F route. Pero ultimately is up to what you both decide!

Good luck to you!

That is not true, you only have to provide evidence of meeting within the past two years. (That is there cut-off) If you have met anytime from September 2010 - September 2012, then you are fine to apply. Your initial meeting and beginning a relationship has nothing to do with the two year period. I met my fiance in 2008.

You can complete this process without a lawyer. Thousands of us have.

Totally right, doesn't matter how long you've known eachother as long as you've been in face to face contact with the person within the past 2 years. Good Luck !

I disagree with the 2 above posts. Pink/jen. The requirement is to have met and File the 129-F before 2 years have past. After that you stay current with the Embassey of Country and keep your petition active by staying in touch, pay the Visa fee. You are required to file before 2 years, not have seen eachother in 2 years after you have filed.

Its not a face to face within 2 years. its filing before 2 years having met face to face.
