Do the 1040 Tax Papers need to be signed

I realize I'm just stressing out now and I'm probably overreacting to things. I think I'm all situated and have a co-sponsor as a backup for my wife's petition. However, I'm curious, do the 1040 papers need to be signed? Is it just for when you file the taxes or do they need to be signed again when I hand them to the NVC? Sorry for what is likely a stupid question. This is all for the I-864 paperwork.

Well of course your Tax Returns need to be signed. Your attesting to their truth with a signature and date. NVC don't ask for your Tax Returns.. Manila will and a copy is fine at the time of the interview. So, don't worry. Am I missing something here. No, your just worried for nothing. Just be sure your Currant Income meets the requirements and you OK..

Sorry, I should've been more clear. It's in preparation for the interview of the visa. The paperwork will be handed to the embassy. Yeah, just double checking everything I realized that the 1040's weren't signed on the second page, so I was curious if they needed to be signed. It's more for the co-sponsors if we need them. Thanks for your response. I still feel like a rookie with this stuff.

If your Embassy will accept a tax transcript, I would get those instead of the original 1040. A tax transcript is what you filed with the IRS. A 1040 is a form that you may or may not have filed. It needs to e signed BTW.

Maybe your spouse used a tax program to submit the tax info. In that case there should be an acceptance email from IRS or some notification that it was electronically signed. This may explain why it wasn't. Otherwise, it must be signed.

Thanks for the answers. My co-sponsor didn't get the Tax Transcript as I hoped she would. So we are just relying on the 1040, W2s, and 1099's. What a hassle. I can't believe I didn't think about the 1040's being signed until now and our appointment at the embassy is on Thursday. yikes! My fingers are crosses though that we don't need a co-sponsor. We are hoping a Letter of Employment from the company we will work with when we get to America will be suitable to prove we will have a continuous source of income. That is because we are both living in South Korea right now.

we have 1040 and w-2 for 3 years and letter or employment,so the tax return (1040) still have to be signed or not?

The rub is that you need a COMPLETE tax return which can include other documenation that you may not include and will get an RFE for--and YES THEY NEED TO BE SIGNED AND DATED. That is why we here on VJ recommend you go to the IRS website and request free tax transcripts as those ARE complete tax returns and are also official in the eyes of the USCIS as the IRS did actually receive and process the return. So please make your life easier and get tax transcripts and then you will not ahve to worry about signing the tax return or if you included all the required forms and documentation.

:thumbs:We used copies, but used transcript for ROC, less paper. I think they like the transcript better, less chance for fraud.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
