Looking to blunt relentless Democratic attacks, Mitt Romney on Friday released his 2011 tax return, a summary of his effective tax rates for the past two decades and, for good measure, two doctors' notes attesting to the good physical health of the candidate and his running mate, Paul Ryan.

The tax return was released at 3 p.m. Eastern time

He always said he'd release 2011's. That wasn't the issue.

But yes. A "summary" ... that'll do, I guess? I wonder if he would have accepted the same from Ryan.

Interesting, too, that Mitt managed to work another flip-flop into the 2011 tax issue.

Mitt said in January: "I pay all the taxes that are legally required and not a dollar more." and "I don't think you want someone as the candidate for president who pays more taxes than he owes."

Now what did Mitt do to not fall below that 13% effective tax rate in 2011 that he claimed he never fell under? Right, he took fewer deductions than he was entitled to and thus he willfully inflated his tax liability and with that his effective tax rate. Out of the $4 million in charitable contributions, he chose to claim only $2.25 million. So he paid taxes on $1.75 million dollars which he is not legally required to pay. Yes, that's right. He paid more taxes in 2011 than he owed so that he would make good on his claim not to fall below a 13% effective tax rate. Still remember what he said in January?

"I don't think you want someone as the candidate for president who pays more taxes than he owes."

Say Mitt, you don't think we want you as the candidate for President? Is it finally sinking in?

He can always carry his contributions over to the next year.

Yes he can. And after he disqualified himself for paying more than is legally required and loses in November, that's exactly what he'll do.

The ballot stuffing has already begun?

No, but rumor has it that the voters that the Voter Integrity Project - these azzhats wouldn't know integrity if it bit them in the asre  - had declared dead are still breathing.

So a lot of good releasing them did. As I said I would have told people to "kiss my @ss" Private business.

Anyway, what would you think of the FAIR TAX now?

Our tax system which is supposed to be the income for our country is so manipulated by politicians...both Dems and Repubs that it barely serves the purpose it is intended for and is simply a manipulative vote-getting tool. Every time they "raise tax on the rich" the rich make sure they are exempted from actually paying it. Change the rate paid from applying to "income" t apply only to "wages and salary" and VOILA! No tax for the wealthy who have little wages or salaries.

It is just broken.

So you were going to vote for him and now you aren't because he paid too much tax?

You mean he may come forward next year and say "Oops, I made a mistake and paid too much tax" Wouldn't that be refreshing! When was the last time a politician paid too much tax? Tim Geitner?

Since George Romney started the trend and it's been used during the vetting process for candidates ever since. Romney himself cares about them, which is why he demanded multiple years from his potential VPs.

He can always carry his contributions over to the next year.

He can only carry over those contributions that aren't deductible because of the percentage limitations of IRC section 170(b), otherwise his charitable deductions must be deducted in the year paid. What is going to happen is that after the election he will file an amended return to fully deduct his charitable contributions.
