The dishes he's referring to are, I believe, what's known as FTA (Free To Air) and they don't carry a monthly charge. Rclouse, correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is what you're talking about. I've looked into it myself and if my tax return is enough this year I'm going to get one... they don't have a whole lot of "quality programming" as compared to the pay systems BUT they are free and as I mentioned earlier you can pick up the Libyan channel which I think Yousuf would like.

Yes, that is exactly what I am referring to. There are several brands, the most popular are ViewSat, CoolSat, and PanSat.

2M and Al-Maghribia come in completely open and free, and there are lots of other Arabic channels that are the same. There are ways to get some of the others that aren't open and free open and free anyway.

why do you want MBC? Isn't that just English movies with arabic subtitles?

Over there they have more than one MBC and one of them has English movies but it's not the one that comes on Dish Network.

Speaking of which, there is an arabic movie with english subtitles called "Limby" anyone seen it? If not, I highlyyyyyyyyyyyy reccomend it. Its hilarious!

Limby is well known in Egypt and I believe has several.

Hicham doesn't care about the Arabic channels he jsut want to watch Real Madrid's soccer matches. Any ideas?

GolTV on DishNetwork. You don't even need a subscription to get it, it's in the clear on Echostar 8.

GolTV is a free Spanish language channel on Dish Network. You can get an FTA satellite receiver (maybe even an old DN receiver), point a dish at that satellite (Echostar 8), and watch GolTV without paying Dish Network anything. And you won't be breaking any laws or "stealing" their signal.

well I miss our movies and songs so I was wondering how can I get Tv with our satalitte channels ..

Like ART and MBC and so on?

Salwa: Best bet is to go to Dearborn...there are many dish and TV shoppes there on Warren...best one I know is Hadi Sat...when I get back I will give you the number... they go throught DIsh Network...so you have to have DIsh Network to get any Nilestat channels....in Michigan...but like I said when I get back I will give you a call..inchallah!
Check your phone book under television or satellite television. Many areas will have a limited choice for different companies. Once you figure out which satellite providers are in your area, you can go to their website and see what they have to offer. Dish Network and DirectTV are the two big ones. Unfortunately, it can get a bit pricey.

Dish Network's arabic package

Direct TV's arabic package

I think you have to get a basic package and add on one of these.

My husband gets some channels (al jazeera, and an egyptian channel) streamed free online, but I don't have the addresses on hand. inshaAllah I'll check with him.

Comcast does not offer arab channels in Nilestat and other arab networks...they only show local arabe channels like ArabeNet...but these really suck!

Rahma I have comcast cable do you think if i call them and ask if they have arabic channels or not?

I think the same too the satelite ..But have thier intervet service too so I think I can't do that now!! :(
Better option to go through Dish network to get your TV channels and get a IOP telephone like Vonage for your home phone and Internet service. Vonage actually can be used to call Europe for free...and if you get a Vonage phone for your family in Egypte call them for free too.... which is nice if you want to call mobile phones not just always use the Net messengers to call....

yep Free to air (FTA) has good stuff, especially if you're interested in watching TV from Arab nations and even have a vietnamese channel on 97 degrees West satellite. I bought my stuff from www.fusionsat.com. Quick delivery. Setup is a cinch just look up FTA on google and you'll see plenty of stuff on the topic.

...haven't really read through everything....but in addition to Dish Network's Arabic packages...i recently became familiar with www.alfam4me.com ....they have full arabic movies and stuff....enjoyy...=)

::There’s a laugh in my eyes::

There’s a waltz in my walk

And it’s been such a long time

Since there was hope in my talk

If you never knew

What it is that’s new.. it’s you

‘Cause when your hands are in mine

You set a fire that everyone can see

And it’s burning away

Every bad memory

To tell you the truth

If it’s something new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

The world’s a different place

Where nothing’s too hard to say

And nothing’s too hard to do

Never too much to go through

To tell you the truth

Everything that’s new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

My life, my life

Ohh

So if I get to grow old (oh if I get to grow old)

With many years behind me (many years behind me)

There’s only one thing I want (aahh)

One thing I need beside me

For all that you are

For everything you do

For all that you’ve done

Just for showing me the truth

::It’s you...It’s you...Baby it’s you::

Free-to-air Satellite.

That's what they *ALL* have in Jordan - get the same channels they do. Why's it not popular here? Well, Dish network & DirectTV of course! LOL! Why pay nothing additional when you can pay monthly fees?

The moral of my story: Stick with someone who matches your own culture.

( This coming from an Arab who married an Arab from overseas... go figure. )
