well I miss our movies and songs so I was wondering how can I get Tv with our satalitte channels ..

Like ART and MBC and so on?

this is something i've been wondering about for when hamid gets here too, so i'm glad for the post.

but i just wanted to ask something to the OP. why do you want MBC? Isn't that just English movies with arabic subtitles? :P hehe (at least that's what it was in morocco!)

timeline doesn't matter.

OMG MBC is one of my favorite channels bcz of the show Dandana. They get a singer and they sing with no music (I forgot what thats called :P ) They also play good music videos, but Melody is the best for videos!

Over there they have more than one MBC and one of them has English movies but it's not the one that comes on Dish Network.

Speaking of which, there is an arabic movie with english subtitles called "Limby" anyone seen it? If not, I highlyyyyyyyyyyyy reccomend it. Its hilarious!

I've got a pretty decent setup for my wife. Dish has lots of Arabic stuff but you're "supposed" to pay for it. ;) You can get a 30 inch dish and point it at 97 degrees west, that's IntelSat Americas 5. Click on that, scroll down to where it says "11749 V" under "Freq. Tp", you can get pretty much everything from that point down for free with a 30" dish (the stuff above that you need a BUD (Big Ugly Dish, 6 foot)).

You need the aformentioned dish, the proper LNB, enough RG6 cable to go from the dish to your TV, and a DVB satellite receiver. You can get used receivers on FleaBay for as little as $50, a new ViewSat or CoolSat with component video will run $170-$200. Also it helps if the south facing side of your house is unobstructed by trees, other buildings, etc. MI is farther north so the satellites are lower in the sky.

Have Mark email me and I'll tell him what he can do. I'm sure he can figure out everything as long as he knows how to use a drill, a compass, & to screw some bolts.

On their website, they list have a flag on the middle east in their flash section on international channels (but I can't link to it, screwy set up). Call you local office and see. When we had the basic digital cabel (200 channels), none of them were arabic.

For watching al Jazeera online, go to this page on their website, select a show from the right hand side, and you should be able to watch it by clicking on the little speaker or video camera.

Buying used receivers can be a risky business as they may be blocked due to prior unpaid billings. I used to consult with Dish and that was a common problem for consumers with satellite transmissions.

The dishes he's referring to are, I believe, what's known as FTA (Free To Air) and they don't carry a monthly charge. Rclouse, correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is what you're talking about. I've looked into it myself and if my tax return is enough this year I'm going to get one... they don't have a whole lot of "quality programming" as compared to the pay systems BUT they are free and as I mentioned earlier you can pick up the Libyan channel which I think Yousuf would like.

2M Maroc is free to air also. I think having 2M will justify the initial cost of the system for us, especially if I save for it now before he comes. I've noticed that when I've got 500 choices, I keep flipping around and getting bored, but if I've got all of three fuzzy channels coming through an aerial, I can always find something interesting. A monthly bill of nothing makes those FTA channels look rather attractive, especially when we're first starting out. Frankly, at least in the beginning, when we're finally on the same side of the ocean watching the same TV on the same sofa, it won't matter so much what's actually on the screen. Cheers!

Many places in Dearborn offer the FTA dishes/receivers for purchase. You could probably negotiate on the installation. But check around there. The prob with the FTA is that sometime the coordinates change so you have learn how to change these. Ask around in Dearborn. Also in Oakland County, there is a channel on the Comcast lineup that is in Arabic...or atleast shares time with the Chaldean speaking programs.

Edited to fix typos.
