From people's previous post it looks like this poor girl is still being degraded! I can not believe someone just basically said not to marry this girl ( that they dont know themselves) because she's a bar girl! Since the man did not ask for relationship advice I think some of your judgmental statement about this woman should be kept to yourself. I mean afterall someone is marrying you as judgemental as you are so I dont know why your marriage is more likely to serve then theirs.

Op just br cautious, do some extensive research before you start your application. So you both know the best way to handle it.

People are replying based on the facts that the OP presented. If you feel uncomfortable with those facts, do not visit the thread.

FWIW: asking about the couple's sexual history is fair game in an interview. The OP knows this and is trying to determine what impact that may have.

The background check in the beneficiary's country may reveal that she worked at a bar girl. If it's not disclosed (or lied about), then at the interview it could be classed as a material misrepresentation. Denial, ban.

Getting input from others in the Asia:East and Pacific forum may be helpful. I don't recall seeing this specific topic discussed recently. Do a search to see what you can find.

OP, be as sure as you can that you've got a solid relationship for all the reasons that have been mentioned. Ultimately that is what the CO wants to determine. If your fiancee cannot convey that in the interview, it's less likely that a visa will be issued.

Hello friends,

This is a bit embarrassing, but I hope you can help :help:

I am in the process of applying for a K-1 visa for my Khmer fiance. However, when I met her she was working at a bar and there was an exchange of money for services on two occasions. She had only been working at the bar for 2 weeks and had never left with a man before.

We are trying to decide whether to be honest and disclose this in our cover letters or lie and say we met somewhere else. Does the former disqualify her from getting a visa? It will no doubt raise suspicion, and the embassy there already has a very high denial rate from what I've heard.

I know "just worked there for 2 weeks" sounds like a BS story but it's the truth so if you could please answer under the assumption of so I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks! :)

I don't know about Phnom Penh, but at the Bangkok embassy if you even mention anything about working at a bar period, you can forget it. Doesn't matter if they went with customers or not. I know it's not fair if someone worked at a bar and was never a "bar girl" to get shot down, but that's the way it is.

The USCIS only knows what you tell them... And, trust me, people only tell the USCIS what they want them to know.

Honestly, unless there is a "reason" for you to tell the USCIS that your gal is a "bar girl," and I have no idea what that reason might be for you to tell the USCIS that you gal is a "bar girl,"don't do it!

Best of luck,

Sid

you don't need to tell uscis how you meet, you just need evidence of relationship. however you will be asked how you meet at the embassy!

I wont get into all the gory details, but this is what happened to me:

I met a girl at the hotel bar the first night I arrived in Bangkok. She gave me the ol "I've only been doing this for a month" line. She said she was 24, turned out she was 19. We ended up moving in together etc. Fast forward 2 years later and I'm at a Thai police station with knife wound at 2 AM compliments of her sister and the cops telling me that if I don't sign this confession (which was in Thai) they were going to lock me up. All the while the cops are drinking my scotch. I signed the confession and went on with my life. Ended up meeting a decent girl there and got married. My Thai wife has her citizenship interview this Thursday. So it all worked out in the long run.

I suggest you google "stickman bangkok" and "private dancer" Although private dancer is fiction, it rings true.

What even *is* a "bar girl"?? Is it a female bartender? I was a bartender here in the US (granted, I'm a USC) and never once slept with a customer. All I did was sling drinks. Isn't that what all "bar girls" do??

Not in SE Asia. A bar girl in SE Asia is a prostitute that works in a bar. You pay the "bar fine" to the bar to take one of the girls out for sex. Or 2 or 3 if you're into that.

Prostitution, whether for 2 weeks or 2 years, is grounds for denial, yes. Don't lie. You'd just be making more trouble for yourself.

Who has engaged in prostitution is considered inadmissible to immigrate to the United States. There is a waiver available for that, but she won't have her waiver approved at all, she must prove she rehabilitated, and of course they want to see this happening for two, three years.

What a tough situation to be in. I have to agree with 90% of the replies. It is a Moral Turpitude Violation to start. Any member that tells you not to disclose that material fact does not care about the possible outcome of your case/petition and the ramifications of decete at any point of the process. Because she was a Bar Girl does not make her a bad person to me due to the fact that is acceptable there. But, not to USCIS. Admitting you paid for sex does not make you an angel either but your not going to be the one on the Hot Plate. She will be. I wish I could give you an idea what to do. Tell the truth and cross your fingers or move ahead. If at any point a deception is found, as others have said: Your dead in the water. Deception is the same as a lie so be careful what you sign and her as well.

I have seen at least one story here where the USC married a bar girl, and the fraud became apparent once the girl arrived in the US. The appeal to working in this field is money, and even though the first time one enters the trade may be through desperation, the taboo has already been broken, and becomes easier to return to again and again.

Love has blinders. People enter into relationships with what seem to be the best of intentions, and circumstances change. I am not saying any of this applies to the OP, however, be careful, be aware, and don't be surprised at how things end up, either good, or bad. Sometimes knights in shining armor do rescue damsels in distress, and everybody lives happily ever after.
