When did you apply for it? It isn't really assigned until you have the card in hand with the number although the date on the card was the date of our application. Applied for my fiancee's on 9/4 and got in the mail 9/10.

I haven't applied for it. I have my interview in 3 weeks and on the DS-230 Form that I'm required to take to my interview there is a section on the form which asks you if you would like a SSN assigned to you. So I checked "yes" because I do want an SSN# assigned to me. My question is; has anyone else checked this box on the DS-230 form and if so, how long did it take to receive your SSN in the mail.

Hi All,

I answered “yes” to being assigned an SSN on Form DS-230 and I was wondering if anyone knows how long it usually takes to receive your SSN#?

Thanks!

That portion of DS 230 does not apply to K-1 petitions. You will still have to apply for it when fiance arrives in US.

Ok thanks, does anyone know how long it usually takes once you apply?

Applied for my fiancee's on September 4, 2012. We got her card in the mail with the # on September 10, 2012 so for us, 6 days. But, they tell you at the SSN office it takes two weeks.

Ok so not really that long at all. Thanks so much for your help! :)

My wife applied for her SSN on 13 August 2012. It arrived in the mail on 14 September 2012.

YMMV
