Security Message for U.S. Citizens (September 20, 2012)

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria issues this security message for U.S. citizens in Nigeria.

On Friday, September 21, 2012, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and all associated facilities will close at 11:30 a.m., and on Friday, September 21, 2012, the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos will close at 11:00 a.m. The U.S. Mission to Nigeria takes this action solely as a precautionary measure. Protests against controversial cartoons and films occurred in parts of Nigeria. U.S. citizens should limit their travels beyond their residential compounds during the afternoon of September 21.

Some of the local folks have been doing demonstrations but mostly in the North. The Abuja Embassy/Consulate was under very tight security since the Libya thing.

Hopefully interview dates doesn't get shifted for folks that have already made plans but of course embassy staff safety is number one.
