Hey,

Ryan76

2 year Green Card is because of "ALL" the fraud that goes on in getting a "Green Card". You will have to prove your marriage is "Legit". I talked the other day with a DHS USCIS employee and after talking a bit, he gave me an insight behind this... He says that they get a whole bunch of crazy cases... women, unfortunately, marrying "ax" murderers... get the point... or marrying, sorry to say, not trying to point fingers, but this is his own words, “lots of women get into marriages just for the Green Card!” I also said that there are stories out there that people are paying $10,000 for marriage and a Green Card. He said to me, in reality, people are paying $40,000 or more. Imagine that! So to weed out the no-good people, USCIS has instituted the 2 year Green Card. You can read here, in VisaJourney, lots of cases about divorce after the Green Card. But some are true, because there are lots of bad US citizen spouses out there... Abusive! But some good folks are taken advantage in a divorce, especially if the person wants just the Green Card! So if you are still in good standing after 2 years, you can remove conditions. I would like USCIS to change it to 3 years or 4 years to apply for removal of conditions.

Hi everybody!

I have been following this forum silently for quite some time now. But now I just need to speak out and I hope to get some advices as well as some good words.

I am like you all here a September-filer, September the 3rd to be exactly. That means that I am actually heading for my 11th month of waiting. It just drives me crazy. Especially when I see so many people filing after me getting their GC. Happy for them but sad for me! :(

I thought I would get my GC by now so I could fly back to Norway next week to visit my family and celebrate my mom's 60th birthday. Now I don't know if I should fly or not.

I have called USCIS several times, first without getting any accurate answers until today. Have also done a service request over the phone as well as an E-request. Infopass was also waste of time. Today I got the news that my application is now in Houston field office with a status of pending adjudication. My application has been there since middle of July. I don't know how long I have to wait until they make a decision.

I would so want to fly back to my family next week for 3 weeks. My question now is how big is the chance that I would get an interview since my application is now in a local office. Should I just fly and hope that they will send my GC without any interview or a RFE (afraid if that too)?

I have my AP-card so it shouldn't be any big problem going back to Norway (I hope!)

I would be so grateful for some advices. Thank you so much in advance!

Hi twinkle I am sorry you are still waiting. :( I think once your file has been sent to the local office it won't be long before you hear something. I know you said you are wanting to travel next week. I don't know how long you are planning on being gone, but, they way I see it, I doubt you are going to get an interview (still possible though) and even if you do, it wouldn't be next week. I think you should keep your travels plans and you know the way things always go, probably the minute you board the plane your green card will be issued :) Lots of people travel with the AP card and have no problems. My husband had trouble traveling with it when we vacationed in Mexico, only because Frontier airlines was not familiar with the AP card and would not recognize it as a valid travel document. It is the airlines that can be a problem - not immigration, so make sure the airline you are flying back into the US on is familiar with the AP card and you will have no problems.

I hope you hear something soon - before you leave for your trip so you won't thinking about it while you are spending time with family!

We filed for AOS on Sept. 17th. Received EAD card November 16th. Nothing since then! I had to see a local USCIS officer today to get a duplicate NOA I-797 on my AOS application that I never received to file for another EAD card since ours was due to expire Nov. 15th. The officer told me that our AOS application had been sent to the New Orleans field office and we were to be scheduled for an interview. No other news. Is this strange or not?

Hi all!

A little update on our case.

July 2 - we received NOID and they requested medical and biographic information (sent that immediately to uscis raleigh-durham field office).

July 24 - Our case was updated to decision, our I-485 was approved.

July 29 - Order card/ card in production.

July 29 - we received the welcome notice hard copy.

I thought everything was going good and our application was finally approved. BUT..... when we received the welcome notice/approval notice, my wife's middle name was incorrect on the notice. Her middle name there was her middle name when she was single. We changed her middle name to her unmarried last name when we got married. All of our previous documents from USCIS were all correct. EAD, SS card, driver's license, all NOAs were all correct except with this welcome notice we received on July 29 and the NOID notice. We called them asking why it was like that. They said that's how they have it on their system. I told them why is it then that on her EAD, and all other uscis documents her name is correct. They just suggested us to go to INFOPASS. By the way we haven't receive the actual green card yet as of today.

Has anyone experience this problem before?

Good Luck to those who are still waiting. I am sure it will come soon enough. :)

Thanks for everyone support and help. rolleyes.gifbiggrin.png

Dear Agrabs!

Reading your nice and encourage words late last night made me less worry and I slept a lot better. Thank you! Really appreciate it! rose.gif

Waking up and wanting to return your answer, I first did a check up on my case status and guess what? My case status has changed from Acceptance to DECISION!

Hahahaha! dancin5hr.gif I am not really sure if this really is an approval, I hope so, but at least some movement in my case, and the way I see it, it seems like I won't get any interview, right?????

I am sure that your magical words (and maybe my annoying calls to USCIS) made the case speed up, Agrabs! ;) Anyway, we both are just happy to get such a good news this morning! Happy happy joy joy!!

Now I guess I can fly to visit my family without any big worries. I just hope I won't get any big problem with my AP flying back with United Airlines! Cross my fingers!!

I wish all the others that are still waiting good luck! Your time will come soon! Just look at me!! :D

Btw, congrats to lucky Llisis! It sure went fast with you! :)

Technically, I do believe that your AP becomes invalid now that your GC has been approved.

I was in your shoes at the beginning of July: GC decision on July first, received my welcome letter on July 5th and I was flying to Canada on July 10th. I received notification that my GC was sent that same day.

I was told by one VJ member that it SHOULD be okay to travel with AP, that the USCIS understands that your life doesn't stop for them, but I didn't want to take that chance and run into trouble at the border on my way back. No one else gave me insight on my dilemma so I'm not sure if anyone has successfully traveled with AP once the GC had been approved (leaving the USA knowing - it would be different if you were already elsewhere when notified of the approval).

I made an infopass appointment to get an I-551 stamped (brought my welcome letter and itinerary). If your ticket isn't booked yet, I would wait until you received your GC in hand. If it is, make an infopass appointment to get your passport stamped. If you don't get your welcome letter in time, then just travel on your AP; don't waste your ticket for a technicality. Custom agents should understand and are usually thrilled for you when they learn of your GC approval. I was, for the first time, WELCOMED HOME on my way back in the States!

At our recent Info-pass appointment, the officer stated our AOS application was sent to the New Orleans regional office on July 3rd for an appointment to be scheduled for an interview ( almost 11 months since we filed with NBC). We have not heard anything re. any appointment, so should I call the New Orleans office? How long would that usually take?

That is great, congratulations. Which do you think actually helped, the congressional inquiry or the ombudsman request (which did you do most recently)? Did the ombudsman respond quickly?

We did congressional inquiry, but it generated a fairly generic, non-committal response. Thinking about doing Ombudsman request next
