Depends on how much $$ he has to slide under the table. Does he already have his passport? I know for Mohammed to gather up what he needed, it took maybe a week but it may depend on the city he's in.

hahaha. That's so true. He seems to tip everyone to get things done!!!

No he has nothing. He is just starting it now. A week is ok. I was thinking it would be months since it took a good 6 weeks for me to get my passport. The military thing is the one I was wondering about the most though. Since he was the only son he never had to go to the military.

I think it took my husband a week or 2 to get things together, but he already had his military exemption certificate set. It may take a few months, but if he starts now, he should have them done long before any visa. It's very important that he gets everything taken care of with his passport. We've known older (mid 40s) Egyptian men who were american permenant residents who went home for a visit and were prevented from leaving the country because they didn't have page 9 of their passport taken care of.

Here is something my husband wrote up for someone in the past on getting together military stuff:

He must go to the Army Center (Mantakat Tagneed) which he was in before to get his exemption. It depends on where this Army Center was. I believe he knows where is this Army Center. It may be in Tanta, Cairo, ..etc.

I really do not know so well about the situation of the exempted person. But, he must go the Army Center (Mantakat Tagneed) and tell them that he is going to travel to outside the country and if his Military Exemption Certificate is enough for this purpose.

For me although I had already an Military Exemption Certificate, it was not enough to travel outside, so, I paid money and I waited for a week to get a another Military Exemption Certificate which this phrasee written on it:

HE IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THE ARMY AT ALL. However, my prior Military Exemption Certificate had just this title "HE IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THE ARMY".

Anyways, getting the appropriate Military Exemption Certificate or in case the one he has is already enough. He must go to the "Ministry of Interior Administration of Passports Immigration and Nationality" at his town or state in casee of he lives in a village and tell them that he is going to travel outside the country. They will ask him to have a photo copy of his Military Exemption Certificate from both sides, in case of the Certificate is the right one. He is not going to pay a lot of money for this procedure except for the photo copy of the Military Exemption Certificate and for some stampes.

All Egyptians males must have a NOTICE on PAGE 9 of their PASSPORT. A phrase like that must be attached to PAGE 9 of the Passport:

Phrase one

" The military situation has been modified to that person by the Administration of Passports at his (Town)"

Phrase two

" HE IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THE ARMY"

He must have 5 stampes on this page besides the last two phrases.

I think he will get his passport with all those stampes and phrases included to it in the same day in sha Allah.

At the airport the Egyptian officer there is going to look at two things in his passport:

American Visa, PAGE 9.

The person will be stopped at the airport immediately and there is a possibility to be accused of escaping from the country without a Admissibility of the Ministry of Defense, if his Military Situation is not clear.

One Page 6 on my passport, you can see this verse,

"The Admissibility of the Ministry of Defense Is Required in Case of Travelling outside, please see Page 9"

He must check his passport and at least, he must go to the "Ministry of Interior Administration of Passports Immigration and Nationality" at his town or state in casee of he lives in a village and tell them that he is going to travel outside the country. They will tell him and he must do.

Mohamed had all his stuff already except for the police cert. and translations so it took only about 5 days to get finished. The medical stuff takes a few days. It's costly though. In all total with the translations, medical, courier fees, visa fee it cost him 1400LE.

Doodle..he can get everything together and get the translations that way it would save him some time in the future. The only thing he can't get done now is the police cert. That should be recent.

Rahma..hmm that looks familiar ;) Because Mohamed was exempt from the military because he's an only he already had the required military cert. and stamp in his passport. Of course he didn't actually have a passport until he got his packet 3.

Yeah getting this stuff together and done is def. not cheap! My poor husband had to come up with 1400LE..that's over a months salary.

LOL...my Mohamed isn't above bribery if he can't get things done faster. He's also the kind that would cut in line so.....

Moh is the only son too. If I recall, the passport took Moh about a week, but then he didn't "tip" anyone. He refuses. Well, you have to know Moh. LOL Anyway... the shocker was they wanted 400 pounds for the passport. Be prepared.

He's "Mr. Principle". He feels these people should do their job without extra incentive... and I think he enjoys the conflict. Hahahaha.
