As it stands I may not be able to make the trip for the interview.

I'll meet her at Houston (POE) and we then we'll drive back to Los Angeles over 3 to 5 days.

There's no way around getting a low fare on United out of Nigeria.

Oh my goodness Gowon in Houston you want me to come throw confetti at you and your lady. :goofy:

I haven't scheduled my flight yet. However, I have shopping for ticket since I got the interview date. I am leaning towards booking a flight ticket with Turkish airline. When I checked it based on early November departure date, one way ticket from Lagos to Los Angeles (POE) is $1,329. I believe that will be the cheapiest fare. In addition, there is no need for a transit visa.

I used to live North of Dallas.

Thanks for sharing this, this airline has fantastic prices.

It seems outbound flights have a 22 hours layover in Instabul, persents an opportunity to mix with the natives.

Return using LAX - $989, one way from Lagos $1,308.00, ($2,300 versus $3,600 with United) will have to do a lot of thinking about this.

Edit:

Some research material http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_Airlines

Considering the happenings recently with the idiots with the anti muslim video, how safe are USC in Turkey? Will do some research on this also.

I agree with you. It is a good deal but the biggest issue is safety. Turkey is a muslim country. How safe is it to travel with this airline especially when your final destination is United States.

A quick search reveals this about the country http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1046.html, on the surface it seems like an acceptable risk to me as I will have my "decoy" passport. 22 hours is just too long to be stuck in an airport so I know I will venture out.

USA is a big place  but I will price on Quatar too. United/Delta have just spoilt me with their direct flights. I wonder if they price match

Qatar airway doesn't have a direct flight from Lagos to Los Angeles. Another route is to try Emirates. The fare is around $1,378 one way.

I just found that out

But good news, they'll do a one way to Houston from Lagos for $1,000 but with a dastardy 9 hours layover.

Call the domestic airline directly. Some raise their online fares because they are too popular with scammers. I know delta online ( even their own website) used to show at about twice what the actual fare was if you talked to a rep.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
