From the service centers if your K-1 is approved you get a NOA2. The service center send your files to NVC where it is assigned a case number. It stays at the NVC for around 2 weeks and is then forwarded to the appropriate embassy (for you the UK).

NVC received 8/27/12
NVC left 8/29/12
Manila Embassy received 9/5/12
Visa appointment & approval 9/7/12

AOS approved 8/24/13

Thanks for answering! What exactly do they do there though? Haven't they done everything at the service centers?

They do a double check for basically a second approval.

August 23, 2012 - Medical exam (PASSED)
September 7, 2012 - Interview (APPROVED)

October 4, 2012 - POE (Miami)

October 19, 2012 - Applied for ssn & driver's permit

October 26, 2012 - Received restricted ssn

December 26, 2012 - Got driver's license using I-94

Hey everyone. I'm confused about what happens at the NVC. Can anyone clear it up for me, and also how long the petition can be at the NVC? I'm petitioning for a k1 visa. Thank you!

The NVC is the handoff place from USCIS to Dept of State. DOS is over embassies and issues visas. For a K1, mostly they just assign a DOS case number representing your embassy...LND, CDJ, MNL etc. Then they pack up shipments to the various embassies and ship them out. Mine was at NVC for 2 days. If you read posts about sending things in to NVC, then that's not a K1 case.
