I called the Social Security office today, they told me that I am covered under the social security Act. So I receive both benefits because I have worked before I became disabled, I have been trying to figure out if I could get exempt so I wouldn't have to fill out the Affidavit of support for my husband. They told me even though I qualify for both benefits that doesn't mean I have earned 40 quarter credits but I have earned enough credit thats why I am eligible for both. Now I asked them to send me documents to show that I am covered under the SSA and also my payments. I don't know if this is enough though, please someone tell me if this makes any sense. The only exemption for affidavit of support is to get a co-sponsor.

SSA is an earned benefit from past wages. SSI is welfare based on the recipient's financial needs.

If you are getting SSI, you do not meet the poverty line and you will need a Joint Sponsor.
