Because they are not working harder. Productivity is up because of Technology . Thinks like Supply Chain Management, ERP systems, EDI, E- commerce, bar coding, Global Standards (Sorry did not mean to wig out you one world nuts). Anyway the wealth has gone global and to the people who have been smarter enough to leverage Technology.

There are some fields that are screaming for people.. Truck drivers are one. A decent driver can pull down 70K a year. Did you know a good mechanic at a place like Firestone, Tires Plus etc can make 75K a year. Problem is too many people want it handed to them or they go get a 4 year degree in History, which qualifies them for nothing.

It's a new world get on board or get left behind. College Degrees are not what they use to be. TECH TECH TECH. Skilled jobs, go to teh demand. Mr. Occupy I am sorry your degree in Socilogy from Berkley did not land you a 6 figure job and you are still living in moms basement. Shave, Bathe and go to work.

Even tech degrees may not get you anywhere. But a skilled trade will see you employed for life these days.

True, but more and more, you have to be tech savvy and a litte book smart.

ETA: Almost everything I work on now has a microprocessor, and you have to be smarter that the machine to fix it.

Give me a good, well-trained carpenter/joiner, bricklayer, plumber, electrician, stonemason, etc. and I can keep them employed for as long as they want to work. There is a dearth of well-trained, skilled construction tradesmen, and it is only getting worse.

Problem is, there are few apprenticeship/tradecraft training programs available these days, and school-leavers rarely want to learn a trade, because it's manual work. What they don't see is the opportunity to make good money and learn something that will support them for a lifetime, given the relative scarcity of skilled tradesmen.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I don't know! Everybody I know in the trades is complaining that there is not enough work, because the unions are recruiting warm bodies, not craftsmen. It is all about production, and screw quality. The business managers are stuffing their pockets at the expense of the rank and file. Some of these guys go six months without a call-up, and after a few weeks, they get burnt out, sent home, and they are back to waiting for the next job.

We lost a lot of work to the rat outfits that are based for the most part out of state. Couple that with a down economy and it's not good work wise. They even busted a some illegals up here that came up with an outfit based out of Texas. So next time you post one of your pro illegal post think about that first.

Alaska can't control its borders? Put a roadblock on the AlCan Highway. Hire a couple of mounties to run it. Send them all to Winnipeg. They are always looking for workers. We started the fence idea in California and finished ours first. That is why Arizona is having so much butt hurt over undocumented humans in the state.

I'm sorry, I didn't know "Technology" as you put it, was invented in the late 1970s. It's also funny how people now are likely to receive lass benefits as employees had only a few years i.e. It's easier than ever to fire somebody, limited time allowed unemployment benefit and you can't claim unemployment unless you have a good reason for not being able to work, health insurance only kicks in after six months in many jobs, and it's twelve if you work for the likes of walmart. Today's job seekers are also now expected to take drug tests, even for the most menial of jobs.

There are some fields that are screaming for people.. Truck drivers are one. A decent driver can pull down 70K a year.

Really, does that come with your own truck and include the licensing fees, training etc? Any rate, I'm sure, just like university, not everybody is cut out to be a truck driver.

Did you know a good mechanic at a place like Firestone, Tires Plus etc can make 75K a year. Problem is too many people want it handed to them or they go get a 4 year degree in History, which qualifies them for nothing.

Did you know, it takes a long time to become a licensed mechanic and again only certain people are suited to that particular field.

It's a new world get on board or get left behind.

Ya, a brave new world.

College Degrees are not what they use to be.

Yes, I blame the right wing's idiotic insistence on quantity over quality.

TECH TECH TECH. Skilled jobs, go to teh demand.

Great, now we just need like a Billion new tech jobs and everything is sorted right.

Let me fill you in on a little secrete. You know how business people are always screaming about there being a lack of skilled professionals in many TECH fields, well you see. Since, the 1980s, companies no longer have any loyalty to their employees and don't they need to actually need to invest time and money into training employees. Why bother right? Just wait for somebody already trained in what ever particular field is required. The result is many skilled jobs sit unfilled for months or even years at a time.

Mr. Occupy I am sorry your degree in Socilogy from Berkley did not land you a 6 figure job and you are still living in moms basement. Shave, Bathe and go to work.
