Hi!

I have plans to leave Sweden, and try to find a job as a hairdresser in the US instead.

As I've understand it's not an easy way to get a work visa, if your job not transfer you to America and let you work for the same company over there.

In my case that's impossible, as I run my own busiess.

I've been searching the internet for tips, and suggestions about which type of visa that would be most suitable for me and my abilities, and I found this O-1 visa.

In the description of that kind of visa, it says that you need to have distinction in your artistic field and be well known, for example.

I'm a multiple champion in Swedish and European championships, I've recieved several scholarships for being a hairdresser, I have a lot of diplomas, trophies, articles and interviews about me and my skills from newspapers and web pages, and so on.....

Will those kind of skills be enough for me to search the O-1 visa? or do you have any other suggestions of visas that could be possible for me to get?

It's so many things to read, and understand before you're apply for an American visa. I feel lost, and I have no idea where to start actually. Where did you start when you found out that you wanted to live in America?

How long is the process from that you have sent your application, until you'll have (hopefully) the visa in your hand?

Any type of help would be very appreciated! Thanks! :)

Why don't you google the internet to look at the number of people who are employed as an "hairdresses" or "hair sculture" in the US. You will find that there is no shortage in this occupancy. You will not qualify for any type of work visa with this occupancy.

I know it's no shortage of hairdressers in the US, or rest of the world.

I was asking because I think that I've special skills in what I'm doing, I'm quite well known in Europe, and I've heard about other people working in the fashion business, and have got that type of visa.

I don't think it's hard for me to find a job as a hairdresser in the US, but the employer will probably not hire someone without a working visa, so that's the problem :(

Then you need to look into working for a fashion company, who has employees that have very sepecialized skills.

you cannot get a work visa without a job in the US. the employer always has to sponsor you. you cannot apply for an O-1 on your own, you need a petitioner.

Do you intend to teach hairdressing?

I suppose it is theoretically possible, O1's are ha handled by specialist lawyers so that would be your first point.

I'd love to work as a teacher for other students in hairdressing! I've been hired as a teacher and examiner at hairdressing-schools in Sweden before, but I don't have any education for being a teacher. Everything I can rely on, is my skills for being a hairstylist.

It doesn't matter if I'll get a job as a hairstylist working at a salon, or if I'll get a job as a teacher. As long as I find the job to be professional I'm fine.

I found this page on the internet: http://www.amandagillespie.com/

It's a woman who have an agency which specialises to help hairdressers (mostly) to get a visa in the US. Is it worth to contact her? I mean, I still need to find a salon or school that hires me first, right?

You might want to google her name. Looks like she's been investigated for being an imposter/fraud.

She is not a lawyer.
