Visa Bulletin

Hi all,

I do not understand how exactly the visa bulletin works. I have been to the page several times but I still can't figure out if my number is current or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Right now your year hasn't officially started. Look at older ones for last year ( like jan vs feb) and you will see the numbers changing by region, For example in jan Africa was at 24,700 and in Feb it was at 32000. If your number was 26901 you could start your process in Feb because your number was less than the current number. If your number was 41000 you would still be waiting. You would have waited until June befor your turn. If the number never got to 41000 you would not have gotten a chance to actually apply. Every region has different cut offs and some countries have country specific limits.

Go to visa bulletin for October:

Scroll down, to the section called: B. DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT (DV) CATEGORY

And there you can see the case numbers which will be interviewed in October (actually the case numbers BELOW that number posted there).

And when you scroll a little lower, to the section called: C. ADVANCE NOTIFICATION OF THE DIVERSITY (DV) IMMIGRANT CATEGORY RANK CUT-OFFS WHICH WILL APPLY IN NOVEMBER you will see what case numbers they predict to be interviewed in November.

You're supposed to get an e-mail with the instruction to check your status again (on www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC) and there you should find the date of your interview. The e-mails are sent approximately 4-6 weeks prior the interview. Of course if your application was accepted and everything is fine with it.

At least that's how it being processed in Poland.
