Is there a " time out of the US " limit during first 2 years ?

Does any one know if there is a maximum amount of time that you can be out of the country during the first 2 years ? We are getting ready to file for removing conditions on Olga's green card in December. Her mother is very ill in Russia and she and the family have been talking of Olga going back to help out. My only concern is there a time limit on how long she can be over there. Our vacations to Russia over the past 2+years have been a total of 76 days. Anyone ever deal with this ?

Yes there is. My husband had the same issue. USCIS says no longer than 6 months so, he came back in 5 months. To be on the safeside gather any proof you can about her health while you are there also and make sure when you leave and come back through the POE make sure they document it in their computer why your going. When he came home it was like an interrogation for him. Have a safe trip! God bless! I wish your mother well!!!

I believe she is allowed a maximum of 6 months each year.

Sorry, the above replies are incorrect. There is a persistent rumor that the max is 6 months, but it is a year. Google "maintaining permanent residence." This is the same no matter how long you have had your GC.

I stayed outside the states more than 6 months in two different occasions. No questions asked when coming back to the states. The only issue is that your time toward citizenship is interrupted unless you have a valid justification for the absence. Staying outside USA for more than a year without a re-entry permit makes you lose your permanent resident status.
