Hi all!

I arrived here in u.s more than 3 mos ago. And now I realize that it's very hard to stay here without health insurance specially we have a minor child. A month ago my husband got into emergency with a hospital bill of more than 10 thousand dollars and we're so shock about this that almost gets us a heart attack. We think it's too much coz' he is only there for 3 hours then they bill him that much. We're both working but there's no insurance in our job so we're planning now to get a family health insurance for us but we can't decide yet coz' we don't know what is the best and cheapest one for three of us. Any suggestion here most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Until you have insurance through your employers, research the health plans available in your state. Most offer high deductible, high level, major catastrophic coverage plans for a minimal, reasonable amount. With a child, you need it NOW.

In regard to hospital bill, talk to billing and tell them you have no insurance and cannot pay it. They will negotiate and lower the bill - you just have to know to ask, and to push them. Good luck

I agree with kitkat, I believe too, insurance comes from your employer and covered your husband or vice versa. But there's no harm on trying to find insurance company ahead now to cover both of you and your child.

My husband is retired by medical condition, he is the primary holder of our family health insurance that covers me and our 2 sons. He applied for Kaiser Permanente, and I don't have any questions about the payment and the services they provided to my family. Although there's alot of health insurance nowadays like bluecross and others ... try to start checking online .. kaiserpermanente.org

goodluck!

If you know you are not going to get it from your employer anytime soon, you must start comparing family coverage plans now. Depending on where you live, you'll find there are 4 or 5 well known health insurers who are affiliated with the major hospitals. You can start off with a very high level, major medical plan that is meant for emergencies. It will have a high deductible and low monthly payments. It won't usually cover routine doctor visits or prescriptions but you will be covered for catastrophic events. Don't wait too long - the sooner the better!
