Hi Guys, I am trying to book my tickets in the cheapest way possible and trying to kill 2 birds with one stone. Fights from Lagos, Nigeria to the US are well over 1000 ponds (about 1,700 dollars). At the moment, i am trying to leave the UK for Lagos Nigeria for my interview in October. After which i will be leaving for washington sometime in december. Flights from turkey (Istanbul are about $500 around that time)Question is, is it possible to book a return with turkish airline LONDON- ISTANBUL -LAGOS AND THEN LAGOS - ISTANBUL -LONDON, but instead of going on to london, i can book and catch a flight from ISTANBUL TO WASHINGTON. WHAT PROBLEMS COULD ARISE.

IF I DONT HAVE VISAS BACK TO LONDON AND TURKEY WILL I BE ALLOWED TO CATCH MY FLIGHT FROM ISTANBUL to washington? Frequent travellers is this possible?

You can book flights any direction you want. Most countries want you to have a transit visa to stop over, some waive the need, usually transit visas only allow you to stay in the airport itself. Once you have the visa to the US you can stop by the other embassies and they will usually give you the transit visa with no hassle and not too much money. You can probably get a transit visa through the UK if needed. However the ticket string must show the US as your final stop. If you wait until mid Jan the prices should really drop.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

When my gal immigrated to the US from HK, I called, visited websites of just about every airline I could think of that either serviced HK and my gals POE, Atlanta, GA. I found this to be the most informative way to gain knowledge and information I and my gal needed. Call the airlines, as they will have the most current knowledge and information you will need. Like the previous poster stated, most countries/airports don't have a problem with a traveler changing planes/airlines while inside the airport, transit visa(?). Just getting out and back into the airport is where the potential problem(s) can occur. Finally, I will add that your experience and knowledge can and probably will vary from what I and others tell you.

Best of luck,

Sid

QATAR TO USA (MAJOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT) IS $835. THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO GET ON ANOTHER AIRLINE TO YOUR DESTINATION IN USA WHICH IS UNDER $100

Regarding Points of entry........are you given a point of entry after your interview and is that supposed to be your initial destination, before your state of residence. If my final destination is Baltimore, Maryland, where is my nearest port of entry gonna be?

Translated, this means that thre is no requirement to enter the USA at a specific port of entry. I asked the same question previously.

Not all of our immigrants enter via plane, as a side note. Some drive across the border from Canada or Mexico.

Luckily (for me), I answered the question SPECIFICALLY tailored to the OP's situation. I do that, mostly, without the generalities of which you allude to.
