Most life insurance can be obtained through your employer at a cheaper rate if they have a group rate. Do you have health insurance through your employer?

Here is a link that explains the basics. MetLife I would get several quotes from different companies.

Can't really help you there; I get insurance with work for both of us; it's with Minnesota Life. My last job had life insurance with Met Life, and through some professional orgs, I have some discounts at other places...

ETA: but with both my current and past life insurance, it was about $30/mo for both of our life insurance combined. I don't remember how my dad's been paying, but he kept up the policy he bought on my birth for something ridiculously cheap (but it was only a $20k payout)

Health insurance is often completely desperate from life insurance. Just because their health plan might be expensive, they still may have a decent life plan. Have you looked into it?

Hubby and I have life through State farm. Its about $70/month for both of us, $250,O00 each. I have a small employer sponsored plan through work, but it wasn't cost effective to purchase additional limits. It just depends on the plan.
