Got an Interview date. A few Questions.

We received packet 4 today (actually just the appointment letter). I already have the DS 156 and affidavit of support filled out. Is that all that is required for packet 4? Like I mentioned, we only received one page and that is the appointment letter.

I previously sent all the forms and packets to my fiance, so she should have everything required for the interview ready to go.The interview is set for October 22nd. I want to show up at the embassy on the appointment day and surprise her. My plan is to return with her to the US (fingers crossed for pink slip). The problem is I can only take 15 days off from work. Is 10-11 days after the interview enough time for her to get her visa and flight ticket situation ready to go? I was planning to return on the 1st or 2nd of November.

surprising her on the appt date is a terrible idea. it could take up to 2 weeks to receive the visa if you pass the interview...and they advise you not to make any travel plans until visas is in hand. you're cutting it close even if you come on the appt date. my advice would be to tell her your plan, go there a few days early and tie up the loose ends and go over with her what the interview could be like. she might not be surprised but at least you guys will be more prepared for what's important.

Thanks for the replies. I can see how that would be not such a good idea and it would only benefit us to meet up prior to tie up any lose ends.

If it will take over two weeks for her to obtain the visa, there is really no way for me to make it out there for the interview. I'm only able to take two weeks off, so If I go there a few days earlier, I would still have to leave prior to her obtaining her Visa. My boss has made it clear that he will only allow me two weeks or he will have to hire someone else, since he has a business to run. In this economy and job market, that is a risk I am not willing to take. Besides, I need my job to help support her when she gets here.

Also, we facetime daily and we go over the questions and answers that I compiled from friends/family/forum members almost regularly. I feel confident we have consistent answers since our relationship is 100 legit so all we have to do is be honest and confident.

OP - As other have said, surprising her is a bad idea. If you can get there early you can prepare for interview. I was in the same predicament but decided to go to interview knowing that I couldn't wait for her to get visa.

My thought was it's better to secure the visa. My fiancee back then wife now had to come to USA by herself but I was OK with this.

Best wishes!

Jorge

Two weeks are enough.

I arrived for my fiancée interview the day before and the visa was delivered in 8 days.

There is a link in the appt letter of the instructions. Make sure you have everything prepared- justice cert., med check up, all forms, etc.

Justice cert. or police cert. takes time, do that early on.

I prepared all forms and made copies just on case. We sat down and went over everything and made sure she sign appropriate forms.

Going back for her interview is a good idea. No need to surprise her. Good luck!

always be prepared for the blue slip if that happens... far too many people go in with flight ticket in hand and get jammed up in the end. visa delivery varies depending on location and processing load.
