Passport and Citizenship certificate

For those who applied for a passport did they make you give them the original citizenship certificate? When my wife applied for her passport that would not accept a photocopy and said she must give the original, and that they would return it with the passport. She just received her passport, but the certificate was not in the packet. Neither of us liked the idea of giving the original certificate....

Cheers,

Seems I have answered my own question. I just called the National Passport office and the lady stated that sometimes the passport and certificate are sent in separate mailings. I should give it about a week and if it isn't received by then to have the passport holder call back.

The Naturalization Certificate will be mailed separately from the US passport.

Old story, DOS trust their 9,000 agents in everything else except making a copy of your original certificate. I mean they trust them when you submit two passport photos, those photos are of you.

We paid for expedient service, passports came in a hard cardboard envelop we had to sign for. Original certificate came in about four days later in a plain brown envelop with an untracible first class stamp on it. From exactly the same address, not a damn logical reason in the world they couldn't put that certificate in the same passport envelop and even saved themselves 43 cents.

But then we live in a country ran by idiots.

Also make all kinds of excuses about dual naturalization, but force you to maintain actually dual citizenship by putting your place of birth in your US passport.

If you question these agencies about their regulations, tell you that congress made all their laws. But question your congressman on these issues, if they even heard about these some newly created 1,525 agencies, they don't even want to get involved. So much for representation.

Not only with immigration, if you wanted to dig a well on your own property 30 years ago, just did it. But today need 43 permits from 43 different governmental agencies. I feel its time for another revolution.

To be fair - anyone wanting their certificate returned in the same envelope as their passport is crazy.

If that envelope goes missing, someone now has TWO incredibly valuable documents in their possession that evidence YOUR identity.

It is ironic- at the oath ceremony, you get told how important that cert is, and to make sure to always keep it safe.

What's the first thing most of us do? Send it off in the post. Mine came back, a week after the passport, with a tear. Ah well, it;s safe now, and no-one will likely ever see it again.
