Just curious, how many of you regularly visit each other? How many rarely visit ? How many havent visted at all since filing ?

My husband and I visit every 2-3 weeks with no problems whatsoever with the border. My husband is getting to know some of the border guards and they him. It's become a running joke with us really. This past weekend when asked where he was going and why, he answered " to visit my wife" the guy replied " well that's as good a reason as any I spose" We have literally had an easier time crossing in the past 4 months since filing than ever before. Man i hope Im not jynxing ourselves by saying that.

Anyway I was just curious if the whole Can/Am border experience is less stressful than other situations people speak of.

I was alomost not allowed into Canada last time, they thought I was trying to immigrate, even had paperwork form Uscis and Nvc. Her status is not our concern said the lady, I think you are trying to immigrate, All I could do is say, look I have nothing with me. How much cash do you have she asked, I replied very little(visa debits are great)But I do not believe they are in use in Canada. Maybe wrong there. So they searched my truck and off I was. But the Us since the denial , searches my truck alomst everytime, CBP froewarned me it would be like that. I love them so much(NOT). But for those with no problems, I am happy for you and wish you all many good trips, but mostly a quick end to the immigration process.

I am the Canadian citizen, my fiance the USC. We read the ins and outs of visiting while on a K-1 visa on this board, and decided against me attempting entry into the US during this process. We've still got together every two months though, but he's been coming up to see me! We've been together since 2003, so we weren't willing to take ANY chances of slowing down this process or screwing it up! Our decision though.

We've visited six times in the last year. I'm going again in December. She had a problem coming to see me once, because she had a one way train ticket and the US border patrol didn't feel she had enough funds to return. They wanted her to call when she got home, which she did. When I visited her I said I was visiting friends(her whole family) for fear of the Canadians putting up a fuss about visitng a girlfriend. This normally wouldn't be a problem except they lived in Coutts at the time, which is in Alberta on the border. Nothing is there. The guy said, "Your're coming from Philadelphia to visit them and go to Leth and church? That's it?" I thought about coming clean but he let me in. Of course they have their computer which shows crossings and I'd imagine reasons.

We were apart for nearly 2 yrs and saw each other pretty much monthly, either she flew to Canada or I flew to DC. The last 6 months ( which was the time of commencing the cr-1 visa process) I flew down monthly, and never had a problem at POE, maybe being military helped, but most of the guards didnt seem to care. I answered the questions honestly, but didnt add to them. "here for business or pleasure" --pleausure, etc etc.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

We see each other once a month and the last 4 times, I flew down to see him. The Immigration officers never once gave me a hard time. Asked lots of questions about where I worked who I was visiting and where I was going. Most of the time they were more interested in what my fiance did for a living, last time when I told them he was an Officer in the Navy stationed in Norfolk and getting ready to deploy in January for 6 months he said something like "Good luck with that and God Bless". Weird.... The Ottawa border patrol are always really nice to me and even joke around which I find a relief! Oh and one of the guys asked me if I was bringing him any gifts and I was like......"ugh, no but now I feel bad cause you asked me that question, I better go to the duty free and get him something." LOL

I always travel with a thick folder with TONS of papers showing ties to Canada (my mortgage papers, letter from employer, paycheck stub, insurance docs, N0A2..... but never had to show anything).

I think because you are married to a serviceman and have limited time with him before he deploys- there is NO WAY they would refuse you. It would seem very un-American of them.

I think it's great that so far it has been a good experience for you.

I have been fortunate too so far- but they haven't always been as friendly.

As long as they let me in...I don't care if they don't say good morning back. :)
