Do the K-1 interviews get scheduled at the NVC, or at the embassy? What kind of time-frame am I looking at? Since I can't get any information from calling them until they correct THEIR mistake (entering his DOB in the system wrong), I'm checking with the REAL experts (VJ people)! :)

And how do we get notified? Letter, email...?

Thanks!

You can call the NVC 14 days after the date it left the service center to get a case number (you will get a letter from the NVC at some point--for me 2 weeks after I made the interview in Kiev), Then you can contact the embassy to make an interview appointment. Check the countries embassy website to confirm. The NVC does not make K-1 interviews.

Thanks for the clarification. I already contacted NVC & got the case number. The woman said she was just finishing up the file (didn't know the person answering the phone was the same who actually did the filing). But then SOMEONE there entered his DOB wrong, so when I called back, they said it was wrong. I'm like "nuh-uh, I'm reading it right off the exact scanned copy of the application we sent you & THIS is the DOB... both forms". But they said, nope, we gotta send proof... to fix THEIR mistake? What?

So I emailed proof. Sent the scanned copy of the application AND scanned images of my man's passport ID page & birth certificate like they asked... and then I called back tonight & they said a week. A WEEK TO FIX THEIR MISTAKE!!!!! You gotta be kidding!

Argh. Anyhow. Nicely told the guy that I talked to, I know it's not his fault, but since SOMEONE there made the error, not me, then I expect it corrected in hours rather than days. He SAYS he forwarded a message to a supervisor to contact me with an update ASAP... we'll see.

Anyhow, I got info about the Packet 3 on VJ & so here's what my man & I have done so far:

1. Assembled proof of on-going relationship.

2. Getting financial info together.

3. He's gone ahead with the police certificate, even though it appears that Haiti doesn't need it.

4. Working on the medical appointment.

5. Submitted DS-156 online & made copies (and emailed to both of us).

6. Emailed Port-au-Prince U.S. Embassy to get Packet 3.

Am I on the right track at least? :)

The Embassy schedules the interview. However they will not send packet 3 until they receive your case from NVC. Once your case leaves the NVC, I would wait a day or two then email the embassy for packet 3. They usually respond pretty fast.

Interestingly, within 30 minutes of hanging up with that guy, I got an email that the DOB had been corrected. Called to confirm & sure enough. So now we wait... They DID tell me that the DOB would not have slowed down any processing, so that's promising. Maybe by the end of this next week?

So is there any point in scheduling an interview before receiving packet 3, which I need to figure out what that is. Im kind of confused of these steps.

QueenE, I found this & saved it in a Google Doc with the rest of the information I'm collecting on this process & a journal of what's happening. Keep in mind, I THINK I got this specifically from someone who got it from that Haitian Embassy. It will NOT be the same as what you get, as far as I understand. But you might have an idea of what they're going to ask for next:

"Packet 3:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR K-1/K-2 VISAS

This office is pleased to inform you that we have recently received the petition I-129F filed on your behalf by your U.S. Citizen fiancé (e), under the provisions of Section 101(a)(15)(K) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended. Please read and follow carefully the instructions below.

[done] FIRST: Obtain a valid passport or if you already have one make certain it is still valid for at least 6 months at the time of the interview.

SECOND: Please complete the following forms enclosed with this letter to submit to this office before your interview:

• Form DS-230 Part I (“Biographic Data”);

• Form DS-156 (“Application for a Nonimmigrant visa”) electronically filled on the web site: http://evisaforms.state.gov printed in duplicate; DONE!

• Form DS-156K (“ Nonimmigrant Fiancé (e) Visa Application”) to be filled out but NOT SIGNED by all principal applicants;

• Form I-134 (Affidavit of Support) fully completed by the petitioner, together with evidence (recent tax forms), which may be presented to meet the public charge provisions of the law.

(Questions that do not apply to the applicant’s particular situation should be answered “N/A” of “Non Applicable”.)

THIRD: Obtain your birth certificate from the Haitian National Archives (original and one copy).

• If you were previously married, obtain your marriage certificate (s) and the divorce or death certificate to prove dissolution of each of such prior marriages.

• If you have minor children from your previous marriage (s) who wish to accompany you to the United States, one extract of each child’s birth certificate from the Haitian National Archives must also be obtained.

• If you have been convicted of a crime or other offense, obtain a certified court record covering each offense.

FOURTH: Follow instructions on the attached forms regarding the photographs and medical report required.

When you have collected all of the items, which apply to you as noted above, you need to go to any Sogebank branch to pay the K-1/K-2 visa fee of $350.00 per person. Please see the cover letter regarding your appointment date.

MOST IMPORTANT:

No assurance can be given in advance that a visa will be issued. Final determination of visa issuance can only be made after a consular officer has reviewed the formal application and documents and has personally interviewed the applicants.

Beneficiaries should not make any travel arrangements for departure, dispose of personal property or make other life changes until the visa has been issued. A K-1/K-2 visa is usually valid for a maximum of six months from the date of issuance. Applicants must travel and apply for admission to the United States within that 6-month period.

This office will make every effort to expedite the process. However should complications arise, applicants may be required to return to this office or furnish additional information."
