Hello Everyone,

Lin and I have recently started the process of waiting for our I-129F to be approved. It seems to be more of a waiting game than anything.

On to the question. We are preparing our proof of an ongoing relationship, and we have a lot prepared already...more than they are asking for. My question is this, should I add her to one of my bank accounts so we can show we already have a bank account together? What are the benefits? What are the drawbacks?

Thank you for your advice.

Congratulations on starting the process! If I were you, I would not add her to your bank account. That might lead them to believe that you guys are already married. For our proof of an ongoing relationship at the interview, my fiance brought phone records for the four months between application and interview, one email per week for the same time period, and pictures of us together in Japan when I was there. You don't need to go overboard!

If you can add copies of boarding passes and/or of your passport pages showing the stamps from when you visited it would help too, that's what we did in our application :)

Oh yes, forgot about those. I sent in copies of my boarding pass and visa stamps with my I-129F.

Something that concerns me...the affidavit of support. I decided late in life to go back to school, so I am attending law school at the moment. Needless to say, my yearly income is not at the $16,500 level. I do own a house. The battle plan is this: 1) I am returning to China for an internship and I will remain there teaching English until Lin's visa is granted, 2) I will have all my mail forwarded to me in China by a friend, including the NOA2 or and any RFEs, 3) I am taking all my original documents with me (birth certificate, deed, etc), 4) one of my best friends for 20 years will cosponsor and submit an I-134 with me when it is time, 5) we fly back to the US to get married and I will finish school. My question is this, will my showing of assets in addition to a cosponsor be accepted as sufficient?

That is our only real concern. Thank you again for the warm welcome and advice. This site is great.

The question they might have is who is going to support your wife when you return to the U.S. I think they may not believe that your friend is willing to support your wife if you don't show some proof of income from the U.S. I believe your assets have to equal 16,500 times a certain number (I think 7, does anyone else know?)

I will get a letter from my current employer that states my job is waiting for me when I get back, and I will work in China while I am there. Also, my home equity easily beats the 16,500 times seven (I even heard it was five). In addition I have a chunk of money in the bank. I was just going to use the friend's support as back up to show a source of income if my assets, my money in the bank, and the salary from my current job was not enough.

If I could add a couple of things:

I added my fiance to one of my bank accounts,,my attorney seemed to think it was a good idea, but you have to do what you think is best

I would suggest turning on the date stamp feature on your digital camera, that way it is more convincing that you have been together within the last 2 years, remember, you are filling the square for a goverment employee, just "fill the squares" and you will have no problems...good luck!!

Hi Tim and Lin,

Congrats first!

You are right, this is nothing but a waiting game. For China, unfortunately, the waiting game is anywhere from seven to eleven months (average ) depend on the service center you are in.

Back to your question: It is not required on visa interview. But later on(after she gets here and married and file in your adjust of status) you will need it for your AOS interview. So, if you want to, you can go ahead and start doing it. One thing I learn from this process is, the more the better.

Oh, one more thing, there is two great forum (one in English and one in Chinese) that a specifically for Chinese marriage immigration, in case you don't know about them yet, just send me a PM and I will forward you the URL.

Hope this helps,

Anne

Tim and Lin,

One drawback is the possibility that she might empty the account on you.

Hi Anne,

Thanks for the welcome. I am under the same impression, giving them too much is much better than giving too little. Lin visits a Chinese website, but my Chinese reading isn't nearly good enough, 看不懂.

I am more concerned about my finances, I do not want there to be a problem.

Thanks for the advice,

Tim & Lin
