Not to change the topic but.... were there any signs this was gonna happen?? This is every sponsors worst nightmare. Any advice on protecting our assets would be greatly appreciated too. Sorry this happened to you tho. Hopefully you can detach yourself from her soon.

2. Marry a wife who has a potential to make a lot of money even if you get divorced. I-864 is only enforceable when she becomes a public charge.

3. Hope that they don't get sick and use medicaid before they become a US citizen.

Did you read the I-864 in detail before you signed it.

1. Contact the USCIS and find out if you can withdraw your I-864 Affidavit of Support. Withdraw it if you still can.

2. File for divorce.

3. Tell the USCIS you filed for divorce.

4. Change the locks.

5. Protect your assets.

Excellent steps. Spending any resource other than to protect yourself and in full pursuit of your happiness is fruitless.

I resoundingly agree and sometimes I lay in bed at night thinking waddaheck am I doing getting married again after the last two divorces.

1. Won't do jack for the public charge issue. If the government take legal action against you and wins they'll take your assets or you'll spend it defending yourself.

2. Or she can keep her potential in her purse and collect the public charge benefits.

You can't hold or keep the grencard. What you can do is return it to sender with a letter enclosed explaining why your wife does not receive mail at that address and her whereabouts are unknown to you. This may not have any effect at all however you cannot hold her mail, nor can you open it. You can take a copy of the letter and the greencard envelope and send the copies to ICE. As I said, I doubt it will have any huge effect but at least you can't be accused of not returning it when she's not to be found at the address for a month. I don't want to yell fraud because it might just be the way your wife says - that she just appreciates her freedom, or she got cold feet. HOwever, this is a multi stage process and she still has to ROC either with you or as divorced, hence why I'm asking you to return the letter to USCIS and the explaination.

You are on the hook for the i864 as mentioned when the AOS has been approved.

She will probably show up for her GC. Who know she probably has a key for the mailbox and sneak in before you know it. She should be able to track it too so she'll know when its there. Sorry about everything, I can only imagine how you are feeling right now

I don't know how she could track it. However, if she did a change of address in the meantime, either with the post office, or the USCIS, then chances are she already has the green card. The status updates sometimes are posted after the fact.

Usually mails from USCIS are return if they have have a forward address on file. I'm with you though on the possibility that she already received her GC.
