Pakistan 221(g) for K1

Hi, everyone,

I have filed a K1 Petition for my fiance in Pakistan. He had his interview yesterday. It seemed short and fine. At the end, the officer told my fiance that he will be placed on administrative review and gave him a notice labeled 221(g).

I have LOTS of questions, because I'm worried to DEATH!

What 221(g) means for Pakistan?

Is 221(g) a special type of AP? Does it last longer or requires more in-depth background checking?

Does anyone know someone who has received a 221(g) from Pakistan who ultimately received a visa?

I have read elsewhere that 221(g) can also mean refusal and intent to return petition to USCIS for revocation.

Has this happened to anyone in Pakistan? What is the difference between the 221(g) refusal slip and the 221(g) AP slip?

Do most or all people get 221(g)? My impression is that most don't, because this is my first time hearing this label.

Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, experience they can offer us? We're both so nervous. We've already waited 1 year!

Officer: what does your fiance do?

Fiance: She is studying at medical school.

Officer: What kind of doctor will she become?

Fiance: OB/Gyn

Officer: Which state does does she live in?

Fiance: gave state

Officer: What do you do?

Fiance: WIll finish MS in few months

Fiance: Here are all our records of communication (showed him: hundreds of pages of yahoo chats, texting, Skype video call logs, wth Skype snapshot pictures, affidavit of support, tax returns, sponsor's employment and bank statements)

Officer: We don't need any of that. (something like there was a lot with 3.5)

Officer took out the two group pictures we sent him (we have no pictures alone; only have two group pictures). These pictures look weird.

Fiance: They were taken on camera phone (fiance assumed officer was referring to slight lack of focus, although the pics look fine to us)

Officer: you will be placed on administrative review. It last 3 months, maybe less, maybe more.

Officer kept fiance's passport and police certificates, but returned everything else.

AP is almost a guarantee with visa applicants who are males from Middle Eastern or North African descent. It can last anywhere from a few weeks to a year. No one really knows exactly what happens with each AP, but it can be background checks usually.

Oh, yes, we expected AP. It's a guarantee for all pakistani males. My questions are all relating specifically to 221(g)... does everyone receive this (if they are placed on AP)? Does this mean a different AP than other AP notifications? THings like that... see questions above : )

Hi,

Many men in Pakistan get 221(g)refusal slip before they are placed in AP. It just means they can't issue the visa at this time. Your fiance was not told your case would be sent back to USCIS which is a good thing. They kept his passport and said your case would go into administrative review. Sounds to me like they are checking your documents. Once they are done reviewing the documents they will either issue the visa or do security checks.

Carolyn--thank you so much! That's amazingly helpful information. I just have never heard of 221(g) before we received it, so I was super depressed, thinking it was automatic rejection. Thank God! And God bless you for clearing it up!

My wife was put on AP also on august 24th and we are still waiting they kept her pp also.Lets see how long it will take.

on AP since 6 months. I am Pakistani born Canadian citizen. I heard AP is a must for all Pak males, regardless of how many decades they have not been to Pak for.
