I must be a vocal minority in this thread because I don't find arabic to be particularly musical or pleasant sounding, save for some super squee words like 3enkaboot and ferowla.

ETA: the writing is purty though, so agree on that regard :P

Oh no, I think it sounds all forceful and guttural. Sometimes it has almost a nasally French sound, but mostly it just sounds angry and not pretty at all. So no, you're not alone! I think sudefeh, arnab, and katkoot are also cute. Katakeet is pretty cute as well.

I agree with you. There are a few nice words but it's mostly not the prettiest sounding language. It's usually spoken in a very loud, forceful tone which I find unpleasant and off putting.

That is hilarioussss. I imagine our neighbors think that the world is coming to an end if he ever calls home. He paces and shouts.

Same here, and our homes are rather close together. He sits on the sofa right next to the window. I am quite sure it sounds like he is standing at THEIR window shouting in at them. No pacing though.

there are nacheed that sound sublime and ethereal to my ear. the sound of an average street discussion over the price of bread in arabic though is not as enchanting, i agree.

My husband will go outside to have his phone conversations to friends and family because he knows how much the noise level disturbs me. I'm sure the neighbors appreciate it.

I prefer the sound of German. I'm not sure why but it sounds good to me for some reason.

It's better than German

My husband also goes outside in the backyard in the middle of the night to call back home, so he doesn't wake up our daughter. But I do like the sound of the language.

I laugh because I can only image what some of the neighbors must thinking he's talking about, being all loud and sounding angry (even though he's not angry). It reminds me of my loud talking & angry sounding Sicilian family. Arabs and Italians also share the inability to talk without using our hands..

lol that will forever be the description of arabic to me :P

what about namla or hashara? All the insect names are so cute! Ana sol7efa though.

Lots of the insect names are cute... although not an insect, I am not impressed with his dialect for slug-- bezegiya.

I don't mind German at all.
