We went to Cairo yesterday (from Alex) for my husband's interview, and when we arrived our hotel, we learned the embassy had cancelled all appointments for today. We stayed anyway and returned home today. I just got off the phone with NVC who told me they had no information as to how we will proceed. We were anxiously waiting for today, and now we feel we're a little bit in the dark. Who should we contact? Or, should we sit tight and wait for someone to contact us? No one is answering at the embassy--I tried calling yesterday... it just rings and rings... I bet this happened during the revolution last year and so I'm wondering what others' experiences were like and how long it took to get rescheduled. I'm also worried we'll have to re-do the medical exam, etc. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Wow tough timing. You will probably have to wait until things calm down and the folks at the embassy feel safe. Who knows how long that will take. I wish you the best

This is terrible. I am so sorry it was cancelled. I believe you will have to be placed in que again for an interview in 2 months but I hope I am wrong.

Please edit your profile to show your egypt flag under your name.

You have to choose a line that states

consulate and another line that says what country--or something like that.

Please stay safe

That means they have your request to reschedule the interview and once they schedule the interview they'll let you know the new day and time. To be sure you can always call them and inquiry with them, but not today as they are closed for the protests on Tuesday.

I'm glad this thread was bumped. I got the announcement yesterday on my facebook from the US Embassy in Cairo that they are closing the Embassy today ahead of protests that are scheduled for today in Tahrir square. There has been ongoing sit ins, protests, rock throwing and escalated violence in this area since Morsi's latest announcement that didn't sit to well with many. Muslim Brotherhood offices and Al Jazeera news offices in Egypt have been torched. What's happening in Egypt right now has been one of the top three national stories in the States for the past two days, and today we've been watching the live feed as the protest grows.

No visa or routine American citizen services, Tuesday, November 27.

Due to the security situation in the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy, U.S. citizens facing an emergency should call the Embassy at 2797-3300.

Depending on the situation the Embassy may be closed for several days or provide services on and off as needed. That means for those who are scheduled for an interview at the Embassy they should be watching the U.S Embassy in Cairo's website for announcements like this in the coming days so you can adjust your schedule and make arrangements accordingly and not get caught off guard like the OP did awhile back. US Embassy in Cairo's Website: Link

They also have a facebook page and twitter that they update regularly. If your interview is on a day that is cancelled it will be rescheduled as soon as possible. From what we've seen with the closure of the Embassy in the past during the revolution rescheduling the interview may take a month or two.

The embassy closed for a few days in September (after that film incident) because people scaled the walls & took down the US flag. I recall some people on VJ had their interviews rescheduled the following week. Now it all comes down to what the situation on the streets will look like in the next couple of days, so hang in there.
