So anyone who carried a medical bag on that day should be honored the exact same those who made a career choice to put the needs of others above thier own?

What he did was honorable but it doesn't put him at the same level as the fire fighter who climbed all the way to survivors of the impact only to die with them when the tower fell.

The guys listed in the EFR section were putting thier lives on the line day in and day out. They deserve the recgonition.

Nothing against firefighters or police officers but this guy also was there and deserves recognition at the same level as the others. Do people who carry medical bags no care about other people. since when???????

Thanks. You always have to sift thru and get the facts when dealing with these types. I understand a Mothers grief, but he does not belong on that wall, nothing to do with his Religion. I would be curious to know if there are any Muslims already on that wall that were Public Service Employees.

Yes, the my-son-is-a-hero-and-belongs-on-the-wall-but-he-was-a-Muslim-so-he-must-have-been-a-terrorist types are the worst!

Considering that the son is dead his name being removed would only be disrespectul to his living family members. In school you ever had an assignment get a grade that you thought was a Tad bit low for the quality work you thought you put in and when you asked your teacher to have a second look you end up with a grade lower than what you got initially? Yeah that was why i said what I did. I'm not saying they should really remove the name but wouldn't it be poetic justice against the mom if she is adamant (with her baseless claims) that her unqualified son's name be moved to the 'special section' of the memorial only to have it removed all together? Yes it would be.

Truly twisted logic, I'm lowering your grade after this convoluted mess.

Again the man is dead. You can't direspect a dead man. If his name should be removed from the memorial you tell me how this dead man would feel and how he would react? Removing his name doesn't erase what he did. If he's as selfless as the mother says then the son would be unaffected by his name not being on the memorial.

Why couldn't his name have been Hammond, then we would all feel better about it.wacko.gif

Some ppl just have to bring religion into everything and have to be claim discrimination based on it.

He can have the medical bag with him, he might have EMT training but he was not the First Responder nor he was an off duty First Responder.

He was honored for his act but his name does not need to be with First Responder and please don't use(drag) your religion in everything.

There are no so blind as those who will not see, the problem is not his heroic actions but his name. Henceforth the terribly Muslim sounding Mohamed Hamdani is now the good Irish Catholic Martin Hammond. Now he can go up on the wall, boy, that was easy!

I was with the mom till she pulled the religious discrimination card.

Too bad, that it's true. My link

funny how this whole thing digressed into "removing his name from a memorial" I am pretty sure no one asked for that to be done. The discussion was about adding his name to one he did not belong on.

Example... When I was a Ft Benning, I stayed near the Ranger School. I ran P.T. thru the Ranger school, I did hand to hand in the Ranger Pit. I did some exercises with and was lead by rangers.

I was not a Ranger and did not earn the Tab. I do not have the right to be called a ranger. Either you are a firefighter, Policeman or EMT or you are not. Real Simple. So do we add all civilians who helped others names to the wall that died that day.

He was a certified EMT. If you were an off-duty ranger would you still be considered a ranger if you ended dying in a firefight?

I honestly think most Americans would not care if he was a gay Buddhist or redneck hillbilly or whatever as long as he was a first responder.

This mom reminds me of Cindy Sheehan who tried to cash in on her sons death in the war.

He was but not all Americans are as enlightened as you. Not sure what Cindy Sheehan has to do with anything.

No one disputed he had trained as an EMT.. That does not mean he was a first responder. It just means he had some basic medical training. He was not a first responder.

Now you're disputing the obvious, even when faced with your own words, Politics may be your true calling.

What you can't grasp is this .. He was a guy that hepled others that day. New York commissioned a wall and put the names of the people on it who held the job of Firefighter, Paramedic, or Police Officer. People who in the course of carrying out their assigned duty, lost their life. The kid was heroic but he was not in that category. So if you add his name, do you add the name of anyone who helped that day

I think he is talking about a Park/Fire Ranger, not Army Special Forces Ranger. blink.gif

the individual he quoted was talking about army rangers, so that's the context i took it to be used in.

and my whole point in that post was that I was never a ranger and could never be considered such, just cause i did some training with them and at their school.

He was an EMT. That is a certification not a job. He held medical training as an EMT, he was not employed as such or performing in the job that day. The wall is for uniformed members who's job it was to respond to the 9-11 attack and got paid for such.

There are many thousands of people nationwide who are EMT's that do not do that job. I have a buddy who is a trained EMT that flies a forestry patrol aircraft part time and farms.

Should anybody with any medical training that died that day helping others be on the Firefighter/Police/Paramedic responder wall ???

If an ex-army medic from Austin Tx in town for a shrine rs convention got killed should he but put on that special wall??

I didn't get a Ranger tab, but I did get the "Order of the Bone" and a Milkbone biscuit, after finishing Ranger Week with the rest of the Officer Candidates.

I never said I went to Ranger School. My whole post was that I was not a ranger and could never be considered as such just because I was trained by Ranger Cadre and my Barracks were next to the ranger school during training, and we used some of their facilities.

What was your branch of service ?

The Presidential Medal of Valor is all that is required for the name to go up on the wall, so that's where the fault lies. No point in justifying this or that position on the matter.

True, very true.
