Say what you want about the mom, but her son did not have a say in any of this. I doubt the prospect of being included in a memorial held any motivation for his actions that day. To even suggest removing someone's name from the memorial seems very disrespectful to me.

Considering that the son is dead his name being removed would only be disrespectul to his living family members. In school you ever had an assignment get a grade that you thought was a Tad bit low for the quality work you thought you put in and when you asked your teacher to have a second look you end up with a grade lower than what you got initially? Yeah that was why i said what I did. I'm not saying they should really remove the name but wouldn't it be poetic justice against the mom if she is adamant (with her baseless claims) that her unqualified son's name be moved to the 'special section' of the memorial only to have it removed all together? Yes it would be.

No; removing his name from the memorial would be disrespectful to the American hero who gave his life to try to save others.

At least we can know that the sacrifice of his life will be acknowledged by the only one who truly counts, his creator. Humans, on the other hand, unfortunately can have their own hateful feelings get involved in classifying others in levels and degrees, and not see the true worth of another.

Again the man is dead. You can't direspect a dead man. If his name should be removed from the memorial you tell me how this dead man would feel and how he would react? Removing his name doesn't erase what he did. If he's as selfless as the mother says then the son would be unaffected by his name not being on the memorial.

Sure you can disrespect the dead - it doesn't matter if they are unaware of the disrespect. Removing a hero's name from a monument to heroes as some sort of punitive measure in retaliation for perceived "transgressions" by his mother would be abysmally disrespectful, and also terribly mean-spirited and vindictive.

I'm not going to ever agree with you about this matter, so that's that.

Some ppl just have to bring religion into everything and have to be claim discrimination based on it.

He can have the medical bag with him, he might have EMT training but he was not the First Responder nor he was an off duty First Responder.

He was honored for his act but his name does not need to be with First Responder and please don't use(drag) your religion in everything.

funny how this whole thing digressed into "removing his name from a memorial" I am pretty sure no one asked for that to be done. The discussion was about adding his name to one he did not belong on.

Example... When I was a Ft Benning, I stayed near the Ranger School. I ran P.T. thru the Ranger school, I did hand to hand in the Ranger Pit. I did some exercises with and was lead by rangers.

I was not a Ranger and did not earn the Tab. I do not have the right to be called a ranger. Either you are a firefighter, Policeman or EMT or you are not. Real Simple. So do we add all civilians who helped others names to the wall that died that day.

I honestly think most Americans would not care if he was a gay Buddhist or redneck hillbilly or whatever as long as he was a first responder.

This mom reminds me of Cindy Sheehan who tried to cash in on her sons death in the war.

It helps to read ALL the posts in a thread. Like, the tenth one in this particular thread.

Where is all the nonsense about him not actually being an EMT coming from? He was an EMT. Had been one for a year when 9/11 happened. No matter how many nonsensical stories that bear no resemblance to the OP are dragged out, or what anyone thinks about a grieving woman's misdirected blame for this oversight.

I wonder if you shared this completely unrelated anecdote with the NYPD that gave him a full honors police funeral if you could convince them to take it back, along with the badge they gave his mom. Tell them all about how this slob didn't really earn it, and how wrong they were for doing all that stuff they did after he died. Cause his mom all reminds you of Cindy Sheehan and stuff.

Good grief.

No one disputed he had trained as an EMT.. That does not mean he was a first responder. It just means he had some basic medical training. He was not a first responder.

Just to clarify:

Everyone that is listed where she wants her son was both Active Duty EFR (police, fire etc) AND was also awarded with the Presidential Medal for Valor.

Her son while certified as an EMT was not Active Duty EFR in any kind but he was previously a NYPD Cadet.

She now expects for an exception to be made for him and if she doesn't get special treatment for him then she claims its religious discrimination?

Okay, I got it....

But an exception is already being made, "Instead, the Pakistani-American’s name is positioned in a separate section of the memorial, among those considered loosely connected to the World Trade Center." His actions are being downplayed.

Agreed but he doesn't deserve special treatment at the memorial does he? He received the same acknowledgement as everyone else based on their participation and status at the time of the tragedy.

In fact, seeing as how he received an Official Police Funeral WITH FULL HONORS when he was simply a former NYPD Cadet and never an active member of NYPD is giving the family something special in his memory.

Nothing like downplaying someone's actions during 9/11. Let me repeat how he's being treated, "Instead, the Pakistani-American’s name is positioned in a separate section of the memorial, among those considered loosely connected to the World Trade Center."

Coz there were lot more ppl who did they could possibliy do to save other people's life, strangers helped other strangers in whichever way they could.

So all of these names should be placed in section with First Responder?

He sat around and did nothing, got ya.

She's a dolt.

No, she's the proud Mother of a hero.

How about for all this git's whining they remove the name of her son from the 9/11 memorial? You don't meet the standard you don't get in.

Garbage, if you don't have a lily-white Christian name you don't get in.
